I would still call their reporting overzealous, even if it was a passive act (e.g. by not really modifying their reports since the snow was actually amazing). You definitely get the impression that the mountain is, as in their own words, having the "best conditions of the year" - if you can't...

    Jay 03/22/06, Stowe 03/23/06

Having been lured in by overzealous snowfall reporting, I made the drive up to Jay from New York.... it flurried on and off the whole day, nothing significant really, and I found pretty similar conditions all across the mountain - skied off icy glades and even icier trails. Staircase was...

Looks like its good enough to me to be irrational and leave NYC for Jay at midnight tonight..... I hope it keeps snowing! How are/were the conditions today as compared to yesterday? Sven

    Mt. Washington, NH - 3/11/2006

Cheers for the photos! I bet it will be perfect about 2 weeks from now.... I just kicked off my spring skiing season with a day at Hunter in 55 F and sun this past Saturday... my nose and cheeks are starting to peel a bit from the sunburn (it felt like at least 70 in that sun...) I wonder...

    Hunter, 02/12/06

Left NYC at 5:30 AM, with blizzard conditions and occasional lightning/thunder (first time I've heard thunder in a snowstorm), the snow drastically tapered off by the time I reached the Woodbury exit off the Thruway. At the lower elevations near exit 20 there was hardly any snow on the ground...

Saturday's storm track over Laurentian snow zone

Oh man, looks like I made a big mistake in picking Saturday to drive back to New York. What surprised me though is that there were like 5-6 cm on the ground in Montreal by the time I finally left in the early afternoon, but once you got to the border on the 15/87 it was completely bare...

    Tremblant, Jan. 19 2006 - Death Cookies

After a rainstorm, or "wintry mix" as weather.com artfully terms it, followed by dropping temperatures, finally the stage was set for a day not unfamiliar to anyone that has spent any significant time at Tremblant - although the fact that it was "warm" out, e.g. not -35 C, was the one missing...

    Bruce Trail at Stowe

The whole fanaticism behind "guarding the secret" of backcountry runs (many of which pre-date everyone who still skis) never seemed to make all that much sense to me. It reminds me of some kind of freemason-esque secret handshake society made up of members who derive self value from keeping...

    Mt. Snow or Okemo?

Haha Mark, me and a buddy were once driving down from Montreal to VT for some skiing and we pull up to probably to a pretty good looking border patrol chick - i'd say shes among the hottest I've seen working on the US side - although I've seen some pretty cute ones working the Canadian side in...

    Mt. Snow or Okemo?

I wouldn't even see any sense in factoring the border crossing in when making a decision about where to ski - I've crossed the US/CA border at least 150 times, maybe more, and the last 5 times or so they didn't even ask me for ID in either direction (even though I am in my mid 20s, traveling...

    Jay, VT: 12/10/05

That sucks man... I crank my bindings up to hell because I figure, if I'm gonna bail and need a release, itll be one serious hell of a bail, enough to get em to release even though theyre cranked way above what theyre "supposed" to be... what they recommend for level III or level III+, whatever...

    Hunter Mtn, 12-09-05

Made it up to Hunter this morning after near 0 visibility in the dark on the Palisades Pkwy due to heavy snowfall, passed a whole bunch of carnage along the way (I think i counted 4 jackknifed trucks that slammed into the divider on the Thruway), then fought for dear life to maintain uphill...

Lake effect a big factor this year for snow-belt resorts?

They mention that briefly in an article in this years Powder gear guide ("Moondrop, Rebirth on the Northern Island", p. 82-91): "It's the snow that defines Japan's northernmost island. It floats in at night when you're sleeping. It falls all day. It whitewashes the town, the mountains, lift...

    My Forecast

This storm looks pretty scattered on the radar... anyone have any idea of what kind of snow totals theyve gotten so far in Vermont? Im reconsidering making the 4 1/2 - 5 hour drive for a day trip if they didnt get more than 3 inches from this system... Sven

    My Forecast

I'm going to head up to Killington on Friday... they seem to be getting the better end of this storm - they claim theyve gotten 9 inches at the summit / 7 at base already, and they estimate 30 trails for thanksgiving. maybe if they get a good additional dump from this next wave of storm there...

    Hunter, 11-19-05

Oh... I didn't get there until like 10:30 and someone had told me opening was 10... it made me feel better about my horribly slow morning, but I guess I was misled. I liked the short section of bumps (if you even want to call it a section) on the extreme skiers left coming down the top part of...

    Hunter, 11-19-05

I was unfortunately too lazy to take pics although i had my camera, but the snow was pretty decent, opening was 10 AM & the sun did a good job of softening it up... it was just Hellgate that was open and then the runout towards the triple (to the skiers right of Hellgate)... a few spots with...

    Hunter is in the game

I'm definitely going to be there for opening.... I was actually going to drive up to Killington tomorrow, I had already made plans to get up at 2:45 AM... I even made myself wake up after only 5 hours of sleep this morning so I could pass out at 7 or 8 PM tonight... I wonder how the snowmaking...

MSS to open tomorrow saturday nov 12th

I think he was referring to Center Gully in Huntington Ravine - something I'd guess is unskiable 95% of the time based on what he said, but he said that hes indeed heard of it being skied before... Yeah, I cant imagine something too much steeper than the top of left gully... I was hiking that...

MSS to open tomorrow saturday nov 12th

Tucks is only 45 degrees? Im sure if you calculated the steepness of the top half of the bowl (or the top half of chute or left gully perhaps) itd be like 50+ though no? My friend was telling me people have skied central gully... i've never even scoped that out.. How reasonable do you guys...
