That looks pretty hard to argue with.

The expert terrain doesn’t apply to me.

Rained on off piste or refrozen bullet proof off piste can keep you restricted to groomers at low elevations anywhere. Being restricted to the almost exclusively mellow pitch groomers in Japan would get old quickly. I get your point though. I’ll probably buy a ticket to Tokyo and play it by ear.

    2026/27 season plans

Japan would be soooo much easier for me but I'm very leery of getting rained on. It's been a common thing the last few years.

Yes. It makes sense in a normal year but a lot of the Japan gurus say El Niño can be a negative factor - particularly for Honshu.

    2026/27 season plans

Have we got a thread for this yet? If so I couldn't find it. I'll be in France with my wife and kids and my kid's partners from March 6 for the best part of a few weeks. Air tickets have been bought. So that is done. I've just negotiated a leave pass for a two week solo trip (Kylie will be...

    Australia and New Zealand 2026

I’m on the Gold Coast for a few days. There is no snow here but winter is far and away the best time of year in our region. Just superb.

I don’t think boots are at all hard to travel with. Throw them in the back of the rental car and don’t touch them until the ski day.

Euro School Holiday Calendar for Upcoming Season

Sorry. I was talking from Australian point of view (which I understand is not real important on this board) and talking travelling generally. It’s a great time for us to go to North America too.

Euro School Holiday Calendar for Upcoming Season

I’ve not skied in Europe in the notorious February holidays so I have no reference point but I’ve skied at the big French domains a couple of times at Easter. In my experience Easter has not been by any measure crowded. I don’t think I’ve waited more than 30 seconds for a lift. It has generally...

Llacs de Pessons Hike, Andorra, July 29, 2026

Thanks. I left out the word ‘hazy’ in my previous post (above).

Nice pics. The slightly hazy atmosphere indicates hot weather in areas I know. What was the daytime temperature?

    Year-round Daylight Savings Time

A somewhat related fun fact is there are no daylight savings times here in Queensland. The rest of Oz has them. We went to a vote in 1992 and voted against them. There is a continued push for them and I'm ok either way but if I had my preference I'd stick with the status quo.

Yes. There is a specific reason to do so and that’s to ski on Kylie’s birthday. It’s novelty and will be for a day only. The rest of the time will be hiking. Realistically the only place we both could have skied in very late May in France this year was Duex Alpes and we had already skied there...

    South America 2026

I had that at Ryuoo Ski Park earlier this year. It was very light and dry but still found it somewhat difficult.

Thanks for the offer James but indoor doesn’t count. And the haze phase has dissipated to a degree. I’m currently drinking stouts and porters but that will likely pass as our winter passes. I might call in to @tseeb ’s joint as it would be guaranteed that he’d have some choice beers at his disposal.
