    Australia and New Zealand 2026

A truly abysmal season for Australia. Just too warm. Spencers Creek is where the official snowpack depth is measured. The below pic is usually a winter wonderland scene at this time of year.

If you take out the mountain biking these are my thoughts exactly.

This argument is stymied with the fact that I love both. I’m not much good at either!🙂

I’ve turned my missus into a bigger tight arse than I am. She’d be horrified at the price of the hotel. And a note to other amateurs out there. I found direct hotel pricing for Farelonnes that is quite a discount to the booking sites. Dates are limited though. Due to the holiday weekend I suspect.

Yes the pricing to stay up the hill is mental. We'll only stay up there two nights to ski the three days. This is really lashing out for me. It'll take me some time to recover from the trauma. I will lower the average lodging price for the trip by staying in flea pits for the rest of the time...

Booked! Arriving Sunday 13th. Leaving Tuesday 22nd. Now to arrange a car and lodging. Very excited to be skiing Chile for the first time instead of NZ that looked likely a week ago.

What’s the deal with snow chains? Are they automatically in the boot as in Italy? Or I’ve got to rent them specifically?

I’m booking the flights this morning. In on the 14th is set. I’ll see if we can leave on the 23rd. Looks like we’ll cross paths 16th to 18th. Is the advanced terrain at Portillo above my pay grade and do I need a guide? Are guides easy to source in Chile?

    Golf

Note to self never to play with you. I subjected my playing partners to some horrid golf on Saturday. The wheels really came off. Like @jamesdeluxe I’m off 14 but that number doesn’t give indication that I can still have some really bad rounds.

Kylie will be coming. We’ll arrive on Sunday 14th. I was thinking it might be best to ski the mid week and check out Santiago on the weekend and Monday. We’ll leave on the Tuesday to come back. I was thinking of staying in Farellones and driving up to the resorts.

So we’re pretty confident that there’ll be plenty to slide on in the week commencing September 14th? Is three days around Valle Nevado and two days at Portillo is about right? Is Santiago itself worth checking out for a couple of days?

    Jungfrau, Switzerland (Mürren–Schilthorn, Grindelwald–Wengen, Grindelwald–First): March 26-28, 2026

Lodging and course with Snoworks is booked. Will decide on side destination and therefore arrival/departure airport in the next few days.

You’re like a human Alps tourist brochure. Looks great but I think my wife would be disappointed if I went to such an iconic location without her.

    Lech/Zürs: January 2005 and 2006

As you all may recall I have had one poor outing to the Arlberg in an unusually warm spell at the end of January a couple of years ago. I’m hoping probability suggests I won’t get another poor spell next time. Even if we do get sub par conditions the guides will be able to find some nicer snow...

    2026/27 season plans

I was looking at the accommodation offer late last night. I just had a better look. It’s actually cheaper that I thought. I must have done a quick calculation in my head that rounded it to about 1000AUD. 728 Euro for 7 nights is within my self imposed budget.

    2026/27 season plans

Warm up days choice determines destination airport. Munich for a couple of ski days around Innsbruck. Zurich for a couple of ski days in Jungfrau. Thoughts?
