For sure. Refer to my previous comment about being unskilled. You know that nice feeling of being rocketed out of a turn? I don’t get that sensation so much with wider skis. I am going to make a point of renting some race style skis for a day when if I get suitable conditions in Europe this year...

    South America 2026

I appreciate the advice. I genuinely do. But I’m a pretty unskilled skier. I can’t get a 100mm ski up on edge well. And I get thrown around in crud no matter what I’m on.

    Patrick's Streak, Ski Travel Priorities

I flew to Utah for Christmas with my wife's aunt in December 2024 and was told skiing would be dire. It turned out to be a whole lot of fun despite sub par conditions. Sometimes you've got to commit ahead. The key is to set your expectations accordingly. I'm booked for Chile in a couple of...

I was joking. Mostly. That does look manageable for her but she is getting more risk adverse each year.

With me driving them markedly better. Yes. Armada Declivity. The end of the day it won’t matter a great deal. I’ll be cruising around with Kylie on the bunny hill lot of the time. And I’ve not used the 92s in a while……

Is now the best time to buy ski gear?

I’m thinking a goggle cover or boot warmers.

For you glasses wearers — do you keep them on when you ski?

I keep my specs in my breast pocket so I can see once I go inside a building. I haven't smashed them yet. Touch wood.

    Beer thread

I don't believe I've had those beers but I'm sure I've sampled something from Alchemist. I've only been to the east coast of the USA once. (And I didn't ski there). It was lovely but between my house and the east coast of America is the Rockies and Sierras in the west of the USA and if I go the...

For you glasses wearers — do you keep them on when you ski?

I have prescription goggle inserts. They are great. I have previously had ‘over the glasses’ goggles and they were not at all comfortable. In warm weather I prefer to ski in prescription sun glasses but in cold weather I can’t as my eyes water badly.

Nice. Speaking of Spanish I have been studying for my upcoming trip to Chile. So far I’ve got - “Una cerveza, por favor”. That should just about do think.

    U.S. Presidency #47

I’m not just referring to Mr Trump and his doings when I note that the world is a mess at the moment. It’s certainly as worrying as I can remember (since about the mid 1980s when I became old enough to partly understand global politics and order). Can any of you veterans remember feeling as...

    U.S. Presidency #47

It's what I am worried about. I have the semi significant funds from a real estate sale. It frightens me as much to have it sitting in cash on the sidelines than it does to deploy it into already overcooked markets.

    U.S. Presidency #47

Two years is a long time. It's really concerning. I (like most Americans I suppose) have the bulk of my life savings tied up in the world's biggest and most innovative economy. It'd feel a lot better if someone that at least appeared to be sane was at the helm. The current president and his...

    U.S. Presidency #47

I had no idea that the names had changed on Google maps. That’s crazy. American businesses are bowing down to a demented dictator? Land of the free? But no - it’s still Lake Ontario when I search.

I’ll do that. Warm up day to rediscover ski legs at El Colorado. Then La Parva. Then Valle Nevado. I think I’ll bring my 92mm skis. Better than the 102s for groomers and fine for spring conditions.

We will be in Santiago on the 18th and I'm looking forward to seeing the fonda in the main park there. Sounds fun. I won't be day drinking though.

Thanks for the heads up on buying tix online prior as we’re not Ikon holders. We’ll be skiing the 16th. We might catch you for some turns. I’ll check in with you before we buy our tickets.

Are the dotted lines on the VN trail map not groomed but controlled where the solid lines are groomed? I can see a legend on the map.
