Sugar Loaf to have a new owner

Funny looking at old posts, I thought the Loaf was going to be purchased....about as wrong as I could be. If anybody is interested in the Loaf still, you can check into leelanau.com click the sugar loaf on the front page. Beware that it's not exactly a friendly forum. Pretty easy to see, pretty...

Sugar Loaf to have a new owner

I hope he can firstly get the place going this winter, secondly make the proper hill improvements regarding snowguns, lifts, grooming, etc. To have one of the largest vertical hills in the mitt in operation again would be incredible. I really don't enjoy crystal mtn that much, homestead i have...

Sugar Loaf to have a new owner

Great news, especially since i live about 10 mins from the resort. Big discussion is who the new owner is. He does have quite a past, not exactly a good one. A lot of people are concerned....but what are you going to do? Go another year without a resort? http://www.record-eagle.com/archivesear...

    Where to ski in summer!

I live by the Sleeping Bear Dunes, the whole area is great and we get some of the highest amounts of snow around besides the UP in the midwest. Which is why I can ride a bit later in the year. I also do some snow farming to keep some snow around as late as possible. For sandboarding, you should...

    Michigan U.P. Ski Resorts Merge

So Blackjack's site says they have terminated their season "Accordingly, Blackjack management has decided to suspend operations for the coming ski season. Blackjack ski resort will be closed for the 2008-2009 ski season." I know Blackjack has been on the market, guess Indianhead & bigpowderhorn...

Anyone in SE MI interested in some transceiver....

We had a 300' wide slide on the sleepingbear dunes last year as somebody mentioned. There's quite a bit of snowshoeing, crosscountry skiing & some downhill for skiers/boarders...so depending on what trail you go on, a beacon is a good idea. There are a few other areas where this is possible, but...

    Midwestern ski season opens today

Tyrol will be open wed, thurs as well. 1 run, hike only, would be nice if more areas could do this even if it's super limited & you have to hike.

    Helping this midwest forum

Cops are not such an issue, it's the snowmobilers, but there's room for everybody. Cops pretty much stay on the state roads & don't really venture off them. Last year was good for earnin turns, we had a natural base pretty much for about 4 months.

    Lost Michigan Ski Areas

Timberlee, which is about 10min NW of Traverse City. There was another one I believe close to Caberfae Peaks. That area is pretty cool out there & has the highest elevation in the mitt.

    Helping this midwest forum

I moved here after it closed, but many of my friends & locals remember it quite well & speak of steep riding, long runs, riding fast, tree runs, etc. From the stats I found, 25 runs, 7 lifts(incl. 1 ropetow), close to 500' of vert & it says 180" a year. That snowfall isn't correct (more like...

    Helping this midwest forum

I live near TC, over by Glen Arbor. The trees are really starting to change colors, always gets me a bit more excited. I know Caberfae Peaks is widening one of their runs. Crystal isn't doing anything more to the slopes, but they are going to be adding more runs in the coming years. Still...
