    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

I believe you said that about the Wasatch, not Colorado! :icon-smile: If this pans out, will it be a "first in several generations" event? That's the longstanding conventional wisdom about the I-70 resorts -- that they're too high to get rain during winter.

    More Telluride Mismanagement

Out of curiosity, I checked and the fastest itinerary to Telluride from EWR is a once-daily United nonstop at 10:45 AM arriving Montrose at 1:49 PM and then a 1.5-hour drive. Could be worse, but a travel day in each direction so I'd always have to weigh it against the Alps option.

    Mont Tremblant 2025-26 Season

Sorry, I wasn't implying that power lines are maintained by ski areas (I don't know, are they?). Was just noting the visual incongruity of a place like Tremblant built to handle big crowds that has pockets of antiquated infrastructure. I haven't been in 15 years so maybe there's more (like the...

Our Litigious Culture At U.S. Ski Areas

Good memory! It's interesting that industrial Tremblant has the wooden low-hanging power lines from our youth while old-school GP has modern-looking ones. Was this trail open with no padding on the bottom of the poles?!?

    Creating Transcripts of Audio Interviews

I don't disagree about the nuances argument; however, unless I have a multi-hour solo drive planned, it's not an efficient way to digest information. I wish that I had audio transcription software 8-15 years ago when I had to transcribe ski-related interviews from a micro-cassette recorder. It...

    Creating Transcripts of Audio Interviews

It's basically the same process as transcribing a YouTube clip. 1. Click on the three dots on the Substack podcast and select the "download MP3" option: 2. Find one of the many free "MP3 transcription" sites. I use TurboScribe, which offers three free transcriptions per day. Drag the MP3...

    Creating Transcripts of Audio Interviews

I prefer to read transcripts of interviews instead of sitting through long podcast conversations. Is there a hack to generate transcripts for Substack clips?

Tesla and Elon Musk Evolution Since 2017

Setting aside how silly the exterior looks, this would be near the bottom of ways I'd like to shuffle off this mortal coil.

Challenges of Running An Independent NE Ski Area

Harvey says that Plattekill made lemonade from pandemic lemons. I wonder how things have gone business-wise at its southern Vermont variant Magic Mountain since his 2021 interview? https://nyskiblog.com/geoff-hatheway-of-magic/
