    Oz/NZ 2025

Found? It was always there, but like I’m somewhat retired (if you don’t count my ski coaching job), I’m pretty free to travel the 8 months that I’m not coaching. As the US President said, we don’t need Canadians, so I’ve moved my travel bucks elsewhere than the US. I know that I’m far from the...

South America : 5 trips, 15 areas Oceania : 4th trip coming up, 13 areas so far. As a North American, I find it pretty cool seeing kangaroos when you’re driving up to the hill. Or maybe skiing destinations from June to October. ;) Afriski is also on the radar, but again, it would even more...

    Oz/NZ 2025

I believe prices are higher than in NZ, but varies with fluctuations between the Australian and NZ dollars. Fees: detailed in previous post. Australian lodging cost is basically in resort towns with no commute to the hill versus drives in NZ. Towns outside the resorts price difference might not...

    Oz/NZ 2025

All prices in Australian dollars and based on cost I paid in 2022. Chains need to be carried regardless of time in ski season. $44 AUD at bottom of Hotham access road. Cost for multiple days are much less. It cost me $56 for one week in Jindabyne. NSW areas: Commuted from Jindabyne: Thredbo...

That’s really the bottom at the village with pretty flat beginner run. Once you gets off the lift, most skiers would move at the lifts pods on different parts of the mountain.

My ski trip with flying involved (or that NJ ski trip) always include some touristy part, the exception would be the trip I shared with Tony in 2016 (MT, WY, UT: 13 ski days in 13 days in 8 resorts) or my Alberta-BC. April 2023 trip: 24 ski days in 27 (11 areas plus one coaching course for the...

Another resort that squeeze in the top tier when the snow is good, Mt Buller. Big mixed on terrain, glades, at least one ikonic alpine steep. Agree. I've been keeping a keen eye on the Southern Hemisphere. Canterbury (Christchurch) areas look like they are going well (Hutt, Ohau, Porters)...

I just checked, all the base depth and accumulation numbers are from the ski areas’ snow report. I might have use external websites for some missing trail counts?

I only used their numbers when I couldn't find any numbers from the areas websites.

Almost all ski areas, where I couldn’t find it (1 or 2 cases), I got the numbers from Onthesnow.

    2024-25 Season Recap

October was Whiteface. Austria skiing : Nov 19-25. Zermatt/Cervinia : Dec 9-10. Plans were changed when my MIL was hospitalized while we were in Austria. We headed back to France earlier than planned and my modified extended our stay by one extra week now flying back from Lyon instead of the...

You are correct regarding the distances. The only important within a day trip distance are Melbourne for the closer Victoria areas (Baw Baw and Buller. Hotham and Falls Creek are a bit more of a stretch. Thredbo, Perisher and Charlotte Pass are relatively close to each other. There is a huge...

    Oz/NZ 2025

Yes, but I got 6 days with the Ikon in Australia (maximum would be 10 vs 5 in NZ). I scored two 50% discount Epic tickets for Hotham and Perisher. If I return to NZ, probably be uniquely on the South Island. I want to return to Cardrona (expanded since last trip + didn't see anything skiing in a...

    2024-25 Season Recap

I forgot to mention Mont Kanasuta in new areas. This was done on a return trip from funeral in NW Québec. Edited the above post. Many of the Austrian glaciers resorts open in September and October. We left as the results of the US election as the early results were coming in. Surprised to see...

    2024-25 Season Recap

I count as two, but both areas had separate ownership both twice I went. 6 at Blackcomb June 88 3 & 3 Blackcomb & Whistler April 96. I counted as 4 areas when I went in March 2003. I had a 6 day pass for Val Thorens, but paid extra to access Courchevel, Méribel and Les Menuires. Although I...

    Oz/NZ 2025

Aren’t Hotham (favorite OZ area), Falls Creek and Perisher on Epic or is it just limited to a few Epic passes? Melbourne and Canberra are definitely shorter drives as all of Oz (with the exception of Tasmania) all within both cities. I know I’m nuts, arrived Sep 19 after getting off and barely...
