    Ottawa Holiday Skiing Report 2006

You know it's bad when your neighbour says he is going to throw down some grass seed for next spring on Jan. 2. I bet you can still plant tulips in Ottawa too.

Camp Fortune, QC - December 21, 06 (or is it November?)

Ain't kids great. She will say that it was one of the BEST days skiiing ever. Forget the limited runs and cruddy snow, you can't beat a personal herd of deer on the trail!

Owl's Head $15 Cdn this weekend.

Looks like the skiing sucks everywhere. Looks like Jay will have 8-12 runs this weekend but is charging $45 US. At least Owl's Head is charging to match conditions.

First two areas to open and close in 2006-07: NEast & QC

After all the bad press the operator and the government got over the Orford development plans you would think the idjits would want to have a totally smooth winter, with no negative press. Very short term thinking here. Politics = power + the irrational. ie. We can do it, it doesn't have to...

    Quebec & Eastern Townships skiing?????

Gpaul , Looking at your dates and the hills you want to go to , I would agree with Tony and go out west. Late March early April anything can happen including rain all day long. You could also run into a thaw /freeze cycle .

    Announced opening dates?

I saw on Tremblant's page they are officially opening on November 17. Any other resorts officially make the announcement. They are also selling a pass good for 2 days for $59 CDN until November 18. Question for the mountain climbers. Do the ski hill operators give you any grief about...

Dec. 18-25 near NYC for never-ever family? Advice PLS?

Are you making arrangements for lessons ahead of time too? With 4 kids it may not cost anymore to hire a private instructor than signing them all up for ski school. As they have no experience with snow, let alone skiing, the instructor can also provide more warm-up breaks and tailor things a...

    Jay Peak, VT: 10/21/06

Not surprised you were there already Patrick. We went back on Sunday to check into boots for my daughter, and get 4 more 2 for 1s! The Sunday Farmer's Market also redeems parking passes for product, so my parking turned into a great bowl of Thai chili with fresh bread and a half litre of...

When Should Eastern Skiers Go West?

Ahh, that's where back to skiing with the kids after being away for 15-20 years moi comes in to represent the family weekend skier . We did do two stay over family trips to Jay this year. Because we were pass holders at another MSSI hill and CDN$ = US$ there, tickets were $63 per day...

    Jay Peak, VT: 05/06/06

Are the main highway runs like the Northway holding any snow? Thought they may have had more snow made, and packing, done on them since they are core runs for the masses.

    Ste. Anne, QC - April 23, 2006

It's been freakin cold enough up here the last week+, the snow should be holding out pretty good.

LOL. I just read the Western reports for the voyeuristic thrill. Gee, only 4 inches in the trees. Very rough there for sure!

The racers are the same though. They have no problem staking out prime runs and having it for their exclusive use. The result is ski resorts are becoming more and more fragmented. For larger operations like Killington, etc. there are enough runs and terrain to handle it, but IMHO it is...
