Freeride Skiing/Snowboarding Olympic debut at 2030 Alpes Winter Games

SLC has already been granted the 2034 Olympics (they were named host back in 2024).

Maybe they can build the 3S gondola up LCC in time for the Olympics :troll: :troll: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Paywalled Articles

It looks like the NYT has changed their methodology for free articles to "give me your data so I can sell to you and also sell it to others". You now have to sign in to read the "free" article (which I won't ever be doing frankly):

    Colorado 536 Month Ski Streak

I suspect there are enough long term patches of snow to get some (poor quality) on August 1, but Sept might be a challenge in-state.

    Fire Smoke From Canada

Well that stinks (literally). I fly into LGA tomorrow afternoon... Ironically despite multiple big fires in Colo, the smoke has never been particularly bad on the front range this year (excepting Pueblo which is literally right next to the biggest fire).

    Heat Domes

While I don't live back east anymore, I would guess it depends more on the age and design of the floorplan. Lots of housing stock back east with only a relatively small stairwell connection between the upstairs and downstairs floors. Not going to get much air to circulate if such a design. Also...

    Patrick's Streak, Ski Travel Priorities

I would love to see someone trying to ski that. Not that I would want to try to ski that, but I think it would be fascinating to see someone make the attempt. Is it even possible?

Time for me to pick up the softball: I get being committed, but surely you are kidding. How many of the athletes you are coaching are in the top 15 of the World Cup results? Have you never seen that athletes can actually improve their understanding of coaching and being coached by having...

    Heat Domes

I'm late to this thread, but was wondering why you would have 2 systems like that. Part of the silence comes from variable speed motors on the outdoor unit instead of off/on like window or traditional AC models. Those motors are also one reason they are so much more efficient too. Top...

SW Colorado Fires: Ferris and Gold Mountain

Preferably no trees within 30-ish feet and 100% hardscaped for the first 5 feet around the house/cabin. Sounds drastic, but it can absolutely be done in a way that looks good.

SW Colorado Fires: Ferris and Gold Mountain

As best I can. I don't have much other than some family antiques down there that I would want to remove if I could (but not going to at this point). Everything else at that location is just stuff that could be replaced. My place is very defensible with ~1.5-2 acres of mowed 'lawn'/meadows around...

SW Colorado Fires: Ferris and Gold Mountain

Full name is Aspen Acres fire. Aspen Acres is a place name, not really a town though. It has ~75-100 homes in that spot on the map and the fire is suspected to have been from a not put out fire at the small campground there (which is named Aspen Acres Campground, thus the fire name). Definitely...

Aspen One/SkiCo Updates. (Alterra IPO: Maybe Never)

I don't "get it" either and I live here. Hopefully the terrible season just finished pushed a lot of profitability numbers into bad territory for a lot of lodging places in the mountains to make them reconsider. Used to be you could find a few pretty cheap places mixed in in spots or at the...

    Australia and New Zealand 2026

Sort of and sort of not. Aldi Nord owns Trader Joe's. Aldi, the original German company was founded by two brothers who eventually had a huge falling out and they agreed to split the German Aldi footprint into Aldi North and Aldi South within Germany. Oddly the big fallout causing the split was...

    World Cup 2026

Funny thing is that despite playing a bit of soccer growing up I have little interest in the World Cup. I'll agree with James' recommendations as a good start to liven things up a bit. I only saw portions of the Scotland vs Morocco game as I was working out late afternoon. Most of that game the...

    El Nino 2026-27?

Interesting analysis for Colorado. Prior to looking at that, my memory had been that southern edge of Colo favored by El Nino and northern edge of Colo favored by La Nina. With no real pattern for the rest of the state. However looking at the data the % of increas/favored is much less than I...

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

Wasn't horrid, but also very non-obvious and required developer mode. I copied the data into an .xlsx (hopefully useable for you?) I'll try to DM it to you... The forum software doesn't want to allow it...

    Patrick's Streak, Ski Travel Priorities

The other big player for early race lanes is Loveland. In fact they spend so much of their early snowmaking firepower that it has hampered their now long lost attempts at being first for the public. Often the race lane opens down at the Valley before the public run up at the Basin side opens...

    Patrick's Streak, Ski Travel Priorities

I've actually never understood why more Canadian places don't try to compete for the racer market early season. The snow answer is YES. Much preferred. It may not seem it too much, but at the level of racing for the World Cup skiers even small changes in snow surface can make or break the...

    Beer thread

I've never had a fruit/veggie based beer that I thought tasted like anything but garbage. Not pumpkin, not blood orange, etc... No idea if it's just my taste buds or if I've been that unlucky with the several I've tried, but I never choose any of them ever at this point. Blech. (Not that I...
