    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

Dont go planning winter sports in those areas. There are 2 outliers ski areas, on opposite side of the country, in the very south of the USA. Cloudmont in Alabama and Mt Lemon near Tucson, Arizona. Certainly interesting areas to read about in areas not typically associated with snow.

Not always, but it really depends on the timing of when they run the groomers over the snow. When they groom the wet and let it setup overnight, it can be awful. If it dries out before grooming, then it can be much better.

I did 8 consecutive days in Colorado a few weeks ago and my legs were fatigued by lunch on days 7 and 8. I am very impressed with 10, as you have a couple of years on me. When I was 40, 10 consecutive days didnt have the same effect.

It can definitely dry out but never goes back to fluffy.

Thunder and lightening - JH and Targhee

Happened to me last April at Tremblant. When they reopened it was raining at the bottom and snowing upper half. Seems like a more volatile weather pattern typical of spring. Thundersnow does happen but I have only ever seen that commonly in Utah

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

30 years ago, few locals in SLC skied. It had a reputation as a “dry” state. Even destination skiers generally avoided traveling to SLC. That all changed around the time of the 2002 Olympics.

Young Males Keep Falling From Chairlifts Out West

Unfortunately she got entangled on the lift by her clothes. I dont understand why the safety stop didnt work at the top. Such an unfortunate tragedy.

I think RCR also has a discount program. Lift tickets in Canada are much less than USA. I would not recommend buying an EPIC pass for only these areas.

    Revelstoke, BC February 19-20 and 24, 2026

Paramjit is one of my Revelstoke favorites. However, I usually end up ordering the more traditional, non-fusion entrees.

    Whitewater, BC February 18, 2026

Whitewater has great skiing, but stands out as the best ski area food on this side of the Atlantic.

Young Males Keep Falling From Chairlifts Out West

This style lift seems to be popular in Europe, where use of the bar is not optional. I find it comfortable, however I always use the bar and enjoy the footrest.

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

Agree regarding the east. I cant recall prolonged dry.

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

I skied WinterPark the past 2 days. Chalky snow, good groomers. Anything off-piste was technical skiing with lots of pine sticking up and more rocks than usual. Certainly thin base, but definitely skiable.

    Shawnee, PA: 02/04/26 with worldskitraveller

Its nice to see photos of Shawnee. I grew up going there this time of year in the late 70’s-80’s. I dont recall it ever having skiable trees. Does it have any high speed lifts yet?

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

Such an unusual season with the east leading in snow at many resorts as well as surface conditions. Very atypically west has been far more rain affected than usual.

    Loveland, CO: 02/01/26

I have a lot of family in Colorado. We generally go every February to ski and visit family. My son will be joining and he has a fixed break off from school. With the Colorado snow situation, it’s tempting to simply just drive somewhere east of here, but that would miss a lot of the purpose...

    Loveland, CO: 02/01/26

Thanks for the report. I will be heading to Summit County next week. Seems like I should bring my dedicated 74 mm piste skis. They are built for that firm snow. I cant imagine it could be any worse than Mt Tremblant or Blue mtn the day after rain and a hard overnight freeze.

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

Big Sky also has a unique rocks called andesite that is sharp like shale, but hard like granite. It also cuts like a knife. When I worked in a medical there in December 2002, I recall suturing many lacerations from those rocks.
