    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

The really crazy part of this winter has been the warmth. Current forecast for next week includes temps at least into the mid to potentially upper 80's in Denver area. Those are June temps, not March temps. The current record for March is 84 degrees.

    Yellowstone Club, Mar. 6, 2026

That's a pretty wide range in annual fees listed by AI. Implies anywhere from a $44M to $68M annual budget to run the place, ignoring any initiation fees collected (also assuming that there are no material additional fees collected anywhere for food, golf, etc...). One question that I have is...

    Snowbird, UT March 7-10, 2026

I'm still trying to figure out why former Admin likes puke green helmets. But great to see his visage on the boards. If I had not not had my MI a few months ago I would be heading over to Utah ~tomorrow for my annual guys trip. Interestingly also the same week that Tseeb and Tony/Liz are there...

    Eldora, CO 2025-26

Well, I am not much of a contributor this year for TR's. I did go to altitude and hang in the base area for the first time since my MI in early December. Have to be very conscious of my heart rate while making the ~40 vert climb from the parking lot (eg go slower than I used to for now). Eldora...

    More Telluride Mismanagement

The Wall Street Journal weighs in: https://archive.is/Z7AoM Very interesting that the comments are almost all pro-Chuck. Of course they have never met or interacted with the guy so really have no basis for pro or con.

    Eldora, CO 2025-26

Well, Eldora finally got a double digit snowfall this season. Pic below from just now before they clear it for the day. So the 3" on todays report is part of what is on the stake. Top of the gray curve you can barely see is roughly 18" tall. Not that everyone and their brother won't be hitting...

Big Sky, MT March 4-5, 2026

Big Sky is certainly big enough to keep you entertained for a day even with a lot of top terrain/lifts closed. That said, pretty disappointing in March have so many top lifts not open for skiing (tram, headwaters, etc...)

Inbounds avalanche Feb 26, 2026 at Stevens Pass, WA

For me the mind blowing part of this story is that a significant resort had an in-bounds avalanche big enough to bury someone under several feet of snow for several hours and apparently not a single person noticed - neither pubic nor patrol or etc... The wife (who was sitting at home in Bothell)...

    Showdown, MT, Mar. 1, 2026

Interesting; LiftBlog has that lift listed at 1332 Vertical. And the Payload lift at 1025.

    Chatter Creek Snowcat, B.C, Feb. 18-20, 2026

That cornice above the cat track/run looks very dangerous. I would be questioning the guides before skiing under that thing. Otherwise looks like some great terrain.

    Mustang Powder February 21-23, 2026

My take is that Mustang terrain is generally tough enough that people who are only strong intermediates or weekend warriors will more easily/quickly recognize they need a break. Not sure of others thoughts on that. But I have rarely seen breaks taken in other cat groups I've done previously. And...

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

Looks like a good effort. Were you in/out of Alta? Or entirely backcountry uphill?

    Panorama, BC February 26, 2026

Totally unrelated really: Garmin sleep score FTW, lol. I haven't had a score like that since pre heart attack. That's due to Garmin overprioritizing HRV as a direct metric for body stress, sleep quality, etc... While I'm also a Garmin user myself, their sleep metrics are far from the best in the...

Thunder and lightening - JH and Targhee

I've only seen lighting once while skiing, but have heard the thunder multiple times. I can't even recall the exact number of times at this point, but probably at least 9 or 10. Some back east and plenty in the west. I've been at a golf course where the lightening sirens went off and not a...

Thunder and lightening - JH and Targhee

Pretty rare in Feb, though not unprecedented IMO. And definately not all that rare by late March or into April.

    NYC Metro Region

That's where NYC metro (and sorta Philly too) is a weird transition zone. Decent parts are all fuel oil, other other parts aren't. Never quite understood why it is called oil anymore either. It's basically Diesel with red dye added. I grew up with baseboard heating via a natural gas fired...

    NYC Metro Region

Such a New England/NYC metro thing. No where else in the country does oil for home heating. Yep. Part of it is fairly warm temps overall out west, but part of it is the winds are ripping through the front range from the West as the air comes downhill from the mountains. Won't be surprised if I...

Fairmont Hot Springs, Feb. 22, 2026

It's an interesting comparison for sure. From an objective perspective Tony spent the same amount of time at Fairmont as worldskitraveler might have (hard to say since worldskitraveler seems to only ski one run per lift much of the time). That said, Tony spent at least two nights at the same...

    Project 101: USA Road Trip

One thing I did note in the responses from worldskitraveler was essentially a laundry list of 'top' places he remembered from his trip. It felt more like he couldn't remember all that many distinct things so he had a hard time underpinning just a couple of places because they all blurred...
