Anyone know how Snowbasin has been skiing?

Will be in town tonight through Sunday night and thinking of maybe heading up to Snowbasin for a day if we can get cheap lift tickets (leads, anyone?). Is coverage significantly worse than LCC? I know the base is much lower, but I forget what a good, skiable base is at Snowbasin compared to...

Alta In-bounds Avi - Collins Lift Closed

I think carrying a beacon inbounds without shovel/probe vs. carrying a full pack while skiing inbounds is an ongoing discussion with two distinct viewpoints. Maybe it's selfish of me to not want to ski with a pack when I don't have to, and just have my beacon on as a personal security blanket so...

Alta In-bounds Avi - Collins Lift Closed

Tagging on this thread since I don't have anything worth starting a new thread for from my Alta day on 12/23. Snow was heavy, but everything was covered over. Wildcat was the only lift to open at 9:45ish. Took my never-ever powder skier GF (though she's a good skier in conditions she's used to)...

We might just swing by the gad valley ticket office on the way up canyon, then keep driving. Hopefully that's foolproof.

We were at the bird today and had some great snow mid/lower mountain where it was more wind protected. Thinking Alta looks fun for tomorrow. Is it possible to buy a altabird "upgrade" on a snowbird 10 to share at the alta ticket office, or does it need to be done at snowbird? Any of the FTO...

Hiking in Utah's Stansbury Mountains 9/8/2013

it rains in utah!? the brush looks drier/more dead than the Cottonwood area (at least when we were there in July). Does the Stansbury range get significantly less rain/snow, or is that just due to it being later in the summer?

    Mountain Collective Expands

Where did you see/hear 680 for MVP? Nothing on Mammoth site yet. Is that new passholders only?

admin/tony - you guys think there's any truth to evren's 17 inches at snowbasin so far? If so, sounds like a good call for tomorrow. FWIW, our Long Beach > SLC flight was cancelled an hour ago. Now fying out of SD,which is better for us, but still need to get them to change our flight back as...

"REGARDLESS OF THE TRACK OF THE STORM SUNDAY/MONDAY...HIGH PRESSURE LOOKS TO QUICKLY REBOUND BY TUESDAY. OVERNIGHT ECMWF IS A BIT FASTER WITH THE STORM NEXT WEEK...BRINGING IT THROUGH THURSDAY AND FRIDAY RATHER THAN FRIDAY AND SATURDAY WITH THE LATEST GFS." Told you ;)

Don't worry - my arrival on the 11th will end the inversion, though I don't have any statistics to prove it.

    Mammoth, Dec. 4-8, 2012

Thanks for the report Tony. Coverage seems great for early December (from someone that's never skied Mammoth). Anyone heading up this weekend? Hoping to catch a ride to ski Sat/Sun from north county SD. Unfortunately GF needs the car.

    Mammoth this weekend (11/30/12)??

I'm thinking of heading up Saturday afternoon, ski Sunday/Monday, back Monday night. Snow levels drop significantly Saturday night last time I looked. Up for carpooling/perhaps split lodging if anyone is interested. EDIT: I think I have the storm backwards. Warming up as it progresses, before...

Have a tentative 12/14-17 trip lined up with the GF if Jetblue fairs stay cheap and a little more snow falls from now until then. Hope to see a lot of you guys that weekend.

Weak El Niño predicted for ski season

"The presence of a moderate or strong El Nino stacks the deck for a drier than average winter in the northwest and a wetter than average winter in the southwest" I like that (even though he goes on to say it's a borderline event)

Mt Baldy (CA) cheap 12/13 lift tickets

Very cool, sounds like some fun skiing. I'm confident this year will deliver :)

Mt Baldy (CA) cheap 12/13 lift tickets

That makes sense. I'd assume Baldy is generally not the place I'd generally be going if I just wanted to get out and ski groomers some weekend without driving to Mammoth?

Mt Baldy (CA) cheap 12/13 lift tickets

Began thinking snow yesterday and saw that Mt Baldy is selling super cheap ($19 in July) lift tickets for next year right now. http://www.mtbaldyskilifts.com/ratessummer.php New to the area (N county SD); assuming I won't get a better deal into the fall and should scoop up a couple day tickets...
