Where's the best 2019 Christmas snow destination?

We're back. Expensive but excellent trip! This was our first time visiting both Vail and Snowmass. Thoroughly enjoyed both. I booked all of our flights, car, and condos on Monday 12/16 - so basically 7 days in advance of travel. One advantage to late booking is that the condos we booked were...

Where's the best 2019 Christmas snow destination?

Where were you a week ago. Vail is 86% open (terrain), Aspen 90%, so it won't entirely suck, and we've never been to either so it will be a great experience. My US flights are free on frequent flier miles, EU flights would have been on the order of at least $800 each (probably more) so there's...

Where's the best 2019 Christmas snow destination?

I get it. I spend 355 days a year looking for value and squeezing every ounce of value of every interaction I'm involved in whether I'm the the seller or the buyer and I am both. This is the one week a year I say F it and go where I want, stay where we want, do what we want - and we love to ski...

Where's the best 2019 Christmas snow destination?

This is exactly what I'm going to do. I was initially thinking Aspen first since it's more open and give Vail 3-4 more days to open up the back bowls but I agree with you now - Aspen is the better choice for the crazy weekend so we will hit Vail first skiing 24th-26th, then Snowmass 27th-30th...

Where's the best 2019 Christmas snow destination?

I hear ya, and I appreciate it. I'm going to start with Aspen which looks to be at 75% currently, and then we'll hit vail which is currently at 50% but maybe by 12/28 they'll have been hit again and the rest of the bowls will be open. I really appreciate y'all's help and this discussion.

Where's the best 2019 Christmas snow destination?

My wife would go stir crazy at Mammoth for 7 days.

Where's the best 2019 Christmas snow destination?

Okay so Aspen is 4 hours not 6 from Denver. Perhaps we fly to Denver and hit Aspen/SM for 4 days then Vail for 4 days or 5/3 or similar. If wife wasn't going we would just go to Alta and stay in the lodge that feeds you 3 meals. Eat/ski/hottub/sleep/repeat - that would work for the boys and I.

Where's the best 2019 Christmas snow destination?

We will be buying passes wherever we go. Yes it will be expensive. But it's the only thing we do together all year, I suck it up. But it gives us flexibility.

Where's the best 2019 Christmas snow destination?

Fair point. I guess one reason is that we've already skiied Cottonwood and we're trying to go somewhere different every year. So far we've had the incredible fortune of skiing Whistler at 100% (still our favorite), Cottonwood (50% open), Park City (30% - they didn't even have the canyon/pc...

Where's the best 2019 Christmas snow destination?

Vail didn't open any more bowls today unfortunately. I'm assuming that likely means no more will be open before Christmas given the current dry looking 7-day forecast. Is that a good assumption? I'm a little surprised that there's enough base for one bowl but not others but I guess it all comes...

Where's the best 2019 Christmas snow destination?

My main consideration for this "one big annual" trip is the amount of open and varied terrain, and lift lines, since we will want to ski at least 5 days and perhaps as many as 7 or 8. My boys would ski every single day if they could until they break something. What we find at smaller resorts is...

Where's the best 2019 Christmas snow destination?

Newby here, thanks for letting me in. Not sure how active these boards are but hopefully someone's reading. I have intentionally waited until the last minute to book my annual ski trip. I have one kid in college and one in high school and their spring breaks don't overlap so we are stuck with...
