2/10 - Pico and Dartmouth Skiway

I got a break from my SKi Patrol training on Sunday. I woke up to a lot less snow that predicted, but none the less i got 2nd chair at Pico. I started with 1st tracks under the summit lift. Then again, and over into the birch glades for more first tracks. Next over to upper KA which was still amazing. The snow had drifted in here, and with the big side walls on this trail, i was chomping it! Finally went over to get first tracks down the old poma and into the birch tree area. This is one of my all time favorite spots for some low angle tree skiing. The trees here are amazing! and with some many lines to pick, it's always fun!
Finally called it a day when the wind picked up and the snow started falling.
My fiance calls me on my way back to say they are going to the skiway. I've never been and thought it'd be fun to join the group. Wow, there was powder EVERYWHERE! i'm talking at 1pm there were stashes up to my knees all over the steeper side(holz?) There are actually some really nice steep lines there. And nobody tends to ride them, so all that powder was mine for the taking.
ALl in all it was a powder pigs paridise, and hitting 2 places in one day.

The backcountry is off the charts! Go get some!

I simply had to respond to FTO's 1st Pico report of the year, if I'm not mistaken.

Birch Glade is just a major fun zone - no, it's not steep, but the lines set up beautifully, the snow stays nice, and there are tree options on the left and the right. Glad to hear things are (were?) good at Pico, I plan on making my season debut there next Saturday (2/23, unless next Monday's rain event washes away my dreams). For this Saturday, I've turned my attention to Bolton Valley, hoping they stayed more snow than slop.

Meanwhile, maybe I should consider hitting the Dartmouth Skiway sometime; I've hiked that hill, but never skied it. That's a beautiful lodge they've got at the base, and I'll bet the pow does stay fresh there.
