Alta 12/3

After spending a "retiree morning" lounging and reading news and opinions on the web,(including last night's snow report) I spent the remainder of the morning untangling some strings of Christmas lights. I finally decided they were a lost cause and would go buy new ones. By this time it was nearly noon, and the wife made an "executive decision." She said: "Go skiing and do the lights another time." I finally drove up LCC and first took a slow drive through The Bird. I finally settled on parking at the Wildcat lot (which was nearly half full) and took Collins up. I took my steel cap Volant Power Karves since they are stiffer then my BD's and have been my ski of choice so far this season. In no time at all I realized that coverage was excellent (around 6" new for sure) and the snow was deep and soft enough for the BD's. I took two runs and then decided to change skis. While the trails were fairly soft, I spent my time skiing the trees under the Collins lift and down past the Angle Station. I also traversed out on the T and dropped down on Sunspot and Racecourse. The trees were really nicely covered and deep enough for really enjoyable carving. I also went out into the Ballroom a couple of times and found excellent snow there. I never bothered to go over to Sugarloaf since I was having such a good time and I hate the traverse back when the wind is up. Despite the fact that it was so late in the day, I actually got some lines that hadn't been skied. Alta was that empty! When the light got flat and my early season legs got tired, I went home for a nice Johnny Black and a hot shower. All in all, another nice (half) day at Alta.

the snow was pretty good...i'd say more like 8", but whos counting?? HA...

Got to Wildcat lot at about 9:30 and headed over to Collins lift....I looked up High Rustler and saw the many minions pounding it...never have I seen so many on that trail at once...it had to be 9 people.. I decided race hill would be a nice first run...then traversed over to sunspot and that was great as well. Then it was down the trees under the lift...creamy...soft NICE. Finally after dropping a few bombs they finally opened Ballroom. I hit a couple runs in ballroom out past the rope, then one "lemming" line since hardly anyone takes the early lines in ballroom. Took a few over in Tombstone, and they have the WEIRDEST rope line on the traverse. You actually have to go one at a time and UNDER the ropes, there is a sign stating this...its weird..I never seen it, but what do I know.

All in all the skiing was great and I was back home at about noon to do some actual WORK!!! Blah. We'd like some big storms, but the snows really pretty excellent and they have a LOT of terrain open.

GET OUT THERE!!!!
