A typical visitor to AltaBird in late March would have been delighted with Easter Sunday’s conditions. But the locals are jaded and Liz and I were both tired after 3 impressive days. We also knew a storm was coming and didn’t want to overexert. Liz took Sunday/Monday off to rest and pursue boot investigation. Admin was also resting to recover from his stomach flu.
It was overcast all day except for about 1 hour after lunch. Thus the ~40% of both mountains that softened Saturday remained firm all day Sunday. Therefore at Alta no one was interested in battling the High T. We cruised groomers between Collins and Sugarloaf and took one Backside run, where BobbyD led, linking north facing and low angle sections with soft snow across Greeley Bowl, eventually ending low on North Rustler.
By late morning we had assembled a fairly large group. Bobby Dangerous was noteworthy, being sighted with a very rare device at his ear here:
I showed this pic to our resting skiers later.

After lunch at Goldminer’s we returned to Backside, this time skiing soft snow in the Scratchy gully and cutting back to Sugarloaf. We headed over to Snowbird so we could get a long north facing run with easy access. First was Silver Fox, Arnie and Kay here:
Then Green Forest:
We rode the Gad lifts back and skied groomers into Mineral Basin and then from Baldy chair down to Alta’s base. I skied 12,700 vertical at Alta and 5,500 at Snowbird.
15 of us had Easter dinner at Amy’s featuring admin deep frying a turkey in peanut oil. The fryer:
Removing the turkey from the fryer was more of a challenge.
Yes it fell to the ground, but the bottom line is the tasting and deep frying is the way to go to cook a turkey.
