Hmm... finally, I didn't hike the Pirouette (a little bit too wet to climb on the rocks), but I got another nice crazy day in the north. At la Réserve, I hiked the "Cloutier" trail, a super nice extreme trail that is closed for now 13 years, but every local of the ski area still talk of that nice one. It's very long and there is some extremely great terrain there + between it and the "Luge". In some places, it's almost trees that grew in the trail, but in other spots, it's easy to walk in it. I guess with 10 guys, we could be able to make it like in the past in ... 1-2 days of work

The resemblances with the "Contour" are big, for the upper part of the trail, but all the come back is a enough flat (but was bumped T2B in the past) Total length : near 1 mile. Open in correct conditions and bumped all the way, it would probably be my 3rd best trail, after the Contour & Chevreuil.

On this pic of winter 2003, we see it a little bit, completely on the right, far from the other trails. Very narrow and invisible in many places.
(the main trails are quite wide... the mountain is not so small !)

On my way down, I saw a guy with a chain saw playing in the woods just above the top of the Lavoie (huge double black glade)..... I wonder if we'll have an extended Lavoie next season !?

After that, I hiked Alta to see what they had cut, in the trails. All the intermediate trails have been cut, but all the expert & extreme parts have not been cut But at least, it should open fastly this year, unlike feb 16 in 2002 and jan 18, in 2003 ) I played a lot in the woods to remove some dead trees (full of mushrooms waaaaark). At least, I succeeded to let a good way to pass on the lower part of "Markat", where 2-3 trees were blocking the way since the ice storm in jan 1998.

After this, I wanted to hike Olympia, but there was some big works on the base, as they're building a lot of new condos + they're making some water pipelines, so they broken all the roads in the area. So I let fell for Mt Olympia and what a good thing !! Cause I decided to go to look a little bit the future side of Mt Saint-Sauveur to see if it changed in the last decade. (they built some trails in the early 90s and never opened them). I was mega surprised to see that the main trail of the side had been cleared... certainly in the last week.

Does this looks like a trail not cleared for 10 years ?

The trail was cleared on 615' high, but it may have about 700' high when completed. It's an intermediate/advanced trail and fun thing, it's quite more narrow than the average of St-Sauveur.

I fastly saw that they built few glades on the side, at origen, but there was just the main trail that was cleared actually + the pass from the "Plagne" to reach the future side.

It's the "F" side completely at the right of the trail map. I must say that the base is extremely far from the 71 base (compressed on map) and that there is at least 2 trails built between the left "F" trail (main) and the condos on left. The 2nd main trail on right just merge at the bottom of the side, too... (I just put 40% of the trail map, BTW, to pass under 40kb)

So that's it. Quite an interesting day, even with only 3 mountains.

Will ski all those areas soon <IMG SRC="http://www.firsttracksonline.com/discus2/clipart/happy.gif" ALT="
