Yeah, I know that this conversation looks like some "déjà vu" for you (http://www.firsttracksonline.com/discus2/messages/2508/2237.html?1051445451) (Ski & Hike Fest) but yesterday, I did about the same thing. The main difference is that one of the ski areas was open, but considering it's Alta, this was some backcountry skiing too !!!

So I began my day by a little trip to a ski area lost for 7 years now : Mont Sauvage. This was an enough wild ski area with a big lot of cliffs on the sides of the trails, so for the cliff jumpers with 3' of powder for landing, there is a lot of possibilities !

On my side, I was there for virgin light pow... and I got it. As the ski area is in the snowbelt with a base at 1300' high, they didn't get some sleet in the last week, as St-Sauveur got...

So it was awesome !

The left track is mine

This was the trail I was hiking, though. The best trail to ski is one long and high pitch with some cliff bands on top (in the trail) and it had been cleared during the fall, so there wasn't some brushes.

After that, I left for Mt Alta, relaxing 4h with some chairlifts. I did once all the nice trails in the upper mountain, trying to ski most of the nice ones in middle/lower mountain. In 20 runs, it's tough, though...

The conditions were very great, with 4" of snow this week in the snowbelt and it wasn't open midweek until now, so the conditions were just perfect.

I skied the Slalom Woods with the 3 patrollers of the mountain. They really loved it, amazed to see this new spot in the mountain.

For the moguls lovers, the Superspeed was once again awesome with some perfect moguls. The pitch at top is a little bit rocky this year, but we don't care at all

After my day at Alta, I left for the same lost mountain than last week(s).

I have now skied the 8 "official" trails of this mountain. There was more trail when it was open ski area, a very long time ago, but only the 8 best ones have been restored. I now know the name of the trails... funny, it's some names of beers.

The trails are so steep in that mountain, it's tough to believe it. The average steepness of the mountain T2B is probably over 25 degrees, with all the top at 35+ degrees.

Here is a pic of the "flat" in the middle of the hill. The liftline doesn't have a real flat, though.

All the mountain looked like that, with some amazing pow pow in the steep pitches. It was soooo nice, but I did only 3 runs there, as I wanted to go to a 4th place !

I tried to get to another lost ski area, but I never found how to access it. I guess they've forsaken the access road

So I went to another one... a future one. Not open yet and I don't officially know () when it's going to open. It's the future side of Mont Saint-Sauveur.

Here is a couple of pic of that future trail, all cleared, but very very skied since the beginning of the year. The snow wasn't too bad neither !

It was so cold and my fingers were frozen, so I was shaking and the pics are ugly, I know !
