At 9:25am, I was 4x4 driving up the switchbacks of a snowy old mining road. I parked roughly at 11,600?, skinned to about 12,400? under cloudy skies. By 10am I was making turns. I parked at the star and skied from the arrow:
Up the NW snowfields of Bald Mountain, at least five different mines run lines down to Iowa Mill.
It seems to still be active as all the structures are in good shape. But I didn?t spend much time poking around as I had places to go. Namely, up and down. I did pause long enough to take a look at the current state of things across the valley at Breckenridge, though:
That pause was the only break in my mad rush to get up as I did have a job to do and the clock was ticking. I marveled at the snow quality the whole way ? it?d been a week since anything fresh, yet this stuff was beyond satisfactory. It was powder; slightly settled into a silky-sweet, non-dairy whipped topping. Good morning, Winter!
For those precious moments, time no longer mattered and I hardly noticed its existance. It wasn't until my boots were off that I paid attention to the clock again.
So I was showered by 11, at work by noon and nothing else really mattered all day long.
Happiness is a nice run.
