Beer thread

Beers from Spain. List of their top 10 found when looking for something else.

In Cordoba the temp was over 100 degrees when we there. We did not have much time there so my wife and I did a City tour where highlight was Catedral that was converted from a Mosque and had many Arabic arches in it. My wife was not feeling well that day so she went back to rest at hotel while I crossed river on a historic bridge and returned on another. There was supposed to be a brewpub along river on my return, but it was not open and I only got photo of sign on window.

We did better in Madrid when we went to sushi restaurant across the street from our hotel the night before the eclipse and ordered Asian craft beer that surprisingly was made at brewery in Spain. It was very good.

1906 is a high-end beer made in Galicia, Spain. I brought back a bottle of 8.0% Red that was also very good. Drank it in motel across the highway from Monterey Bay where we attended a spectacular wedding that had Indian event Friday in Monterey from 6-9 PM and our son was DJ. Then wedding took over ocean-view hotel in Carmel from 4-10 PM with an after-party from 10-midnight, then the 30-somethings closed down Barmel at 2 AM. Our son returned to motel, when I did not have a clear glass to pour beer into, at 3 AM. We'd gotten back just before midnight.

Nice. Speaking of Spanish I have been studying for my upcoming trip to Chile. So far I’ve got -
“Una cerveza, por favor”.
That should just about do think.

SBooker, have you tried focal banger or heady topper from the alchemist brewery? Both tops amongst ipas. It’s brewed in Stowe VT right near the ski hill. Can be found in major US cities. Put it on your list.

I don't believe I've had those beers but I'm sure I've sampled something from Alchemist. I've only been to the east coast of the USA once. (And I didn't ski there). It was lovely but between my house and the east coast of America is the Rockies and Sierras in the west of the USA and if I go the other way Japan and Europe. I really need to get there for the fall colours at some point soon though!

The more flavorful beers we shared over Labor Day weekend at South Lake Tahoe.
Even though I had this large bottle, the can of 1906 Red and a bottle of Albarino in my suitcase, I was well under the 23 kg weight limit.

It you like Citra-hopped beers, which we do, it's hard to get more than this one from Native Fermantations in San Jose where our granddaughter's band played a few times this Summer.

From my family's So. Tahoe cabin, it's 1/2 mile walk to Libation Lounge location of South Tahoe Brewing Co. We've been here since Thurs. and did not move my or my son's vehicle until Sunday PM when I drove us to Tahoe Paradise Park in Meyers to see excellent Dirty Cello band.

We also went to Libation Lounge on way home from seeing country band in Heavenly Village Saturday evening. We sat in the back to warm up a little and get away from one of the roll-up garage doors in front that was open. It was cool Friday and Saturday unless you were in the sun. Bartender said they'd just lowered the price of 4-pack of my wife's favorite to $20 so besides sharing a pint we got 4-pack to bring home.

It was warm in sun at the park where I celebrated my first day of no longer being 7-0 with our son, his girlfriend and some Tahoe friends.

From a couple days ago, the view is the bay between Ocean City, MD and the mainland. The beer is Coors Light.

If you buy a pint to drink there it's $8 + tax and tip so $5/can for craft beer to go at brewery is OK. Craft beer is less (and sometimes much less) at grocery stores, but I've never seen South Tahoe Beer Co there.

One thing that is different (and very nice) in Spain and Portugal is your bill is your bill. No ~10% sales tax (or it's already included) and no 15-18-20% tip on top of that. In California, I don't tip on the beers to go. I did add a $2+ tip on my $8-9 beer but I also got free tasters of 3 other beers.

no 15-18-20% tip
It'll never change in my lifetime (or probably ever for that matter) but U.S. tipping culture is a joke. For chrissake, just factor the tip into the price and be done with it. A small percentage of restaurants/bars/cafes already do that but it should be industry-wide.

We’ve had some nice local brews here in Chile.

That Kunstmann brand also does a great bock variety.

There’s a brewery on a pier that overlooked a gloomy Pacific. That one was a single hop (mosaic) that was the best beer I’ve had here so far. I bought a glass to take home.

A brewery in Santiago had a good vibe but the beer wasn’t great.

That Patagonian beer is popular and also decent.

This beer seems the most common here. It’s a typical tasteless ‘cold and wet’ lager. Horrid.
