****Breaking News***

Big Squaw is fixing their chairlift right now
They also sent some groomer parts out to be repaired. No sign of the snowmaking pipe getting repaired yet though. Let's hope the Farmers Almanac is right (for once) and we actually get all the natural snow they're predicting. Conditions tend to be a bit bony at the top of the upper lift, the wind just howls up there all the time.

No sign of the owner moving up from Florida yet. I guess we should just be thankful that he's throwing some money at repairs.

That is GREAT news!!!
Went to Squaw for the first time ~Feb/Mar of last season.....have yet to get to the upper mountain. I'm really looking forward to it this season with new (much better fitting & warm!) boots :D :D
 
The upper part of Squaw is much more challenging than the lower. Last year I skinned up with a friend and my dog after a 12" powder dump. The snow got blown around a lot at the summit and poor Moxie fell into a couple of drifts and got buried :shock: I had to dig him out with a shovel!! He got pretty tired trying to walk in the deep snow on the descent, the skiing was some sweet though :D :D

There's 3 glades off the summit that are fun to ski too.

I noticed on last years trip the warming hut was demolished, but a stack of fresh lumber was piled near-by. Fingers crossed for a new hut this year....and a faster chair ride tot he top :wink:
