Bretton: It had rained hard on Saturday, even on the summit of Mt. Washington. I thought Sunday would be a washout, but was awakened to snow and cold in North Conway. I called all areas in the vicinity. Wildcat- no quad. Cannon-no tram. Black-not looking good. Attitash- looking real bad. Bretton-6 inches of new with more on the way. The drive was tough, very windy and blizzard conditions by the AMC on Rt. 302. Very much well worth it. They didn't lie about the 6 inches, in fact by the end of the morning it was all of 8-10 inches of fresh. What was underneath wasn't bad either, not icy except for the blacks. Pretty tracked up by noon but still very nice. All lifts were running! All of them. Best snow was found on the blue runs off the Bethlehem express quad. The best conditions I've skied all season by far.

Loon: I made the mistake of going to Loon to make the Monday drive home quicker into Boston. I should have spent the day at Bretton. Did the calls, again Wildcat no quad, Cannon no tram. Loon no gondola nor north peak. What little snow they had was in real bad shape. They didn't get the hit that Bretton did in the valley. Almost unskiable, solid pure ice. It felt like it had rained for a few days and then frozen, which is exactly what happened. Won't be going back to Loon to save time anymore, the extra hour or so is well worth it to go further. They did have the parks going and they halfpipe sculpted nicely, if you're into that kind of stuff. Too bad I'm not.

Great report K2chad thanks. Loon was in great shape last week with soft bumps on Flume. Thanks for the update. I'd like to return the favor but I won't be on snow this week.

I skied Loon Sat, Sunday and Monday. Sat afternoon was pretty good. I just got to wet by mid afternoon. I heard some felt Upper Walking Boss was the best of the year before the Rain came. Maybe.......
Sunday it was cold but Walking Boss was okay as was lower picked and Blue ox. I started to get cold by early afternoon. Time to watch the games.

Monday was just brutal. -8 without the winds at the top of the North Peak and Zero at the Governor adams' lodge and alot of Wind.
Any new snow was really blown into the woods.

I skied the North Peak in the morning a few runs, but the chairs were swinging and I was with my kids and we stopped skiing there before the lift got shut down.
My son was in the small lower North Star Park (under the Kanc quad), and he actually got blown onto his back by the wind.
We called it quits.
I thought it was icy, but the cold was more of an issue to me than the conditions. Blue ox and Rampasture were fairly well covered. IMO
I got pretty much what I expected.
They were making snow on Grand junction, Rolling bear, Upper and lower picked rock as well as Lower Speak easy.
I did not ski anywhere else that weekend so no comparison to other mountains.

You're so smart to stop at Bretton! We left our house just past Attitash on Sunday morning and drove through the notch in those crazy blizzard conditions but kept on going across Vermont to Jay Peak. They didn't get nearly as much snow as Bretton and only had 1 chair open! What a bummer of a day! :(

Bretton woods always seems to make out well. My condo neighbors will head to bretton woods upon occasion when a storm is due. I just like terrain at other mountains more.
