Brundage Mtn, ID 1/7/26

We finally have some fairly decent snow up here in ID, even though this past few days' storm was largely a bust. 2-4 ft has fallen in the last couple weeks, which has improved everything dramatically. Brundage is now 100% open as of this afternoon.

All the groomers are good, and the trees are riding OK from about mid-mtn up, however we had a major windstorm a few weeks ago, in which hundreds of trees went down, which is making things a little challenging. The lower half of the mtn in the trees is doable, but not worth the risk with the thin-ish coverage.

Its just been such a wacky winter so far, as we're well above avg for precipitation, but very below avg for snowfall... especially below about 6,500'. I have almost no snow at my house @ 4,000', which I've not seen in the 6 yrs I've been here. The avg temperature in McCall this past moth was almost 10º above avg.... good enough for warmest Decemeber since records began here in 1905.

Photo: Today at Brundage, which was the busiest midweek non-holiday I've seen in my 6 yrs of riding here. Part of that is the previous lack of snow, the other is that all the midweek passholders (like myself), yesterday was the first day outside of holiday blackouts (and that they've been open) where we could ride. Thankfully, the 2 HSQ's really kept lines minimal, but on the downside, everything tracked out really quickly.

Brundage base of 5,840 is high for its region. I'd assume rain issues like this December are very rare. Schweitzer is still only half open with its base at only 4,000.

Generally speaking, yes. It's one thing to have an occassional rain event during an AR or something, especially around the base... however we had rain all the way to the summit during many of the December storms.

The warmth across most of the West in December was unprecedented. To get rain at the base in most Colorado resorts on Christmas Day?!
