Burke has never seen an owner like this before. With pockets that are this deep ($100,  ,   deep) the mountain is going to change A LOT. I feel this goes for the surrounding communites as well. I forsee this as potentially being the largest resort development project Vermont has ever seen. Who knows if it will all be possitive (depends on the definition of possitive I guess). If you haven't been to Burke, I recommend try to get here this season before it changes too much. This weekend is openning weekend but I think I'm going to head to Jay (WAY more snow right now). The Burke to St. Johnsbury belt seems to be in a bit of a lack of snow funk. Although it has been snowing almost everyday it has only added up to a few inches on the ground :( . Here's to a big dump soon!

Sorry, I reread the article "WELL OVER $1   ,   ,   WILL BE INVESTED"

Holy cows

and they bought the mountain for a steal at only 3 mill. these guys are going to make millions upon millions of dollars in profits if the real estate takes off like it should. those folks selling land are selling out for WAY WAY too little. if i were those folks, i would band together and form a small community organization and still ginn for all they are worth. that land instantly jumped in value once burke was bought out by ginn, especially considering how bad ginn needs that land. ginn is nothing without land and real estate, they aren't going to be making money on the ski area which is just the catalyst and ideal location for the resort.

i am still cautiously optimisitc. as i have wrote else where, they can have their real estate, condos, new homes, golf courses, fine dining, big resort atmosphere as long as i still have my burke. retain the character of the mountain and it's modest and respectable price tag and i am happy. i have no objection to burke finally being put on the map like it deserves. i also have no objection at no longer having to hear how bad off the ski area is financially and wondering if i'll be skiing there next season. i only want to ski a great mountain that has great trails and great character at a reasonable price. ginn can do what ever they want so long as they don't touch that aspect of the mountain.

..and how about moutain bike users... The Kingdom Trails network is amongst the 10 best mountain bike spots in North America... it's right in our backyard... are we going to loose all the land access for a freakin golf course!

If the Kingdom Trails looses their lands... It will mark the end of the best thing to happen to east coast mountain biking!

I would love to hear an official release from Kingdom Trails association!

from what i have read, it seems like GINN is being especially careful about considering these types of things, especially things will local ties. that said, i can't imagine a four season resort would even think about destroying a resource like kingdom trails which is nationally reknown for it's network. surely this trail network factors into yet another draw to burke mountain? seriously folks, what other mountain offers half if not all of the following:

2000' vert ski area
auto road to the summit with look out tower and great views
nationally reknown mountain biking trail network
campground
cross country trail network
soon to be golf course

mansfield is the only other mountain that comes to mind. do they have a mountain biking network or campground?

add in lots of slopeside lodging, condos, and an exclusive resort community and burke is crazy setup to be a big time four season recreation resort. two hours from manchester and only three hours drive from boston metro. almost makes you wonder why no other big developers picked up burke throughout it's troubled history. it just needed a lot of financial investment, a vision, and a good marketing tool to get the word out and create a market for the mountain.

I have never been to Burke but it has always been part of my list of areas to visit just because it is not commercial and appears to offer great skiing. Hopefully this year will be the year. Doesn?t your state have strict development environmental regulations that will hold the developers up for years with permit applications in order to prevent uncontrolled development? One only has to look at Tremblant, Quebec where every plan submitted by Intrawest was rubber stamped and away they went. Now look what we have.
