Had a great day at Burke today. They opened for the season with seven trails yesterday so I was only planning on only skiing for an hour or so today. When I finally made it to the mountain at 11:00 (partied a bit too much last night  ), it had warmed up nicely and there was minimal wind under a Bluebird sky. I went in to check the trail report and unexpectedly found that there were 29 trails open
. Long story short... I spent almost the entire of the day at the mountain. Met up with a skied with friends Matt, Ryan, Fiore and Charlotte. All of whom are fairly new to the area and had little to no experience skiing Burke. The first run took us down Upper Willoughby where the snow guns were running. I didn't do that again. I hate frozen goggle syndrome. That run sent Charlotte to the lodge (she doesn't have a beard to ward off the snowmaking mist... I suppose this is a good thing since she is a girl). As Fiore and I rode back up the lift I made the executive decision to head for East Bowl. I warned him that there is no snowmaking over there and that it might be thim cover. Boy was I WRONG! East Bowl was sweet. The view of the Presidentials was breathtaking and the coverage was very good. There was about 8 inches of soft snow. The top 500 feet of vert had a thin crust in the middle, but it was easily handled. It was so nice to ski the generally untracked powder (most other people had stayed in the middle of the trail). There were a few hazardous dips at the bottom of some of the mini-headwalls that will be fill in by the next snow storm. It was heaven.
After that run Fiore had to go. Then I met up with Matt and Ryan. Ryan had skied at Burke once last January and Matt had never skied there (Colorado transplant). These two were with me on my last two outings to Jay this year. They had already taken one run but I told them this time we were headed for East Bowl. They loved it and we hit it two more times. I only saw one other person out there the entire day! We had a great time cruising the powder.
We're headed back up tomorrow for some more sweet runs. Hopefully, nobody reads this and steals my lines tomorrow  Pictures to come Monday!
