wow, HUGE amount of activity at mid-burke and not stopping for the snow. two guys building a stairway from the lower lot, two guys working on the mid-burke lodge, two guys working on the quad, two more guys working on the new HSQ, and vehicles going every which way. it is just amazing seeing that much activity at burke. new signs with the new logo sans burkie the bear are up on the lodge and access road. snow guns were positioned and ready to fire on lower warrens and bear den. the new HSQ now has the unload station hooked up, all towers in place, and the haul rope up but not ready for chairs yet. these guys are definitely going to be ready to roll for opening day.
4-6" fell on burke for my pleasure. i booted up at mid-burke and made my way over to toll road where i found another skier had already beaten me up and down. thanks for breaking trail if you're reading this
a light snow was still falling all the way up toll road. down lower on the mountain, the snow was all powder baby. up higher it was wetter snow on bottom and more consolidated with a layer of powder on top. got pretty cold up higher on the mountain. reached the summit, had a quick snack, and clicked in for the ride down willoughby.
upper willoughby was damn fine. i battled occasional weeds and sticks still poking through the snow but managed fairly well. the snow was variable but the powder was always on top and always sweet. mid-willoughby had not been mowed  and sports the most rocky sections on the trail. pure survival skiing until i got to the lower portion of willoughby where it connects with bear den. from here on out, smooth sailing with 6+" of POW. PHENOMENAL. very light and fluffy powder and the moderating pitch allowed for some wonderful pow turns. in hind sight, i should have just skinned up lower willoughby and yoyo'd from below the non-mowed section. many exlamations of delight were made. i whooped it up down to the unload station for the new HSQ, waved to the workers, and called it a day... too tired to yoyo for more runs.
tomorrows storm should build up the base high enough so that future skins won't need to be done with concern for base damage. only minimal hits and thankfully no core shots today. i can't wait to hit this stuff up on friday. probably be heading to cannon whether they are open or not unless the storm is a dud or hits the NEK harder. i know what i am thankful for this thanksgiving! two pow days before turkey day, five days total, woo! pictures to follow shortly...
