this season is gonna go down as the best ever in my book. that's all there is to it.

hit cannon yet again on saturday and wasted no time in trashing myself and every bump trail i could find.

zoomer was groomed, but zoomer lift was EXCELLENT in the morning. i was having binding release problems and twice my ski popped out after hitting a bump hard. not wanting to humiliate myself under the lift line any longer, i visited paulie's for excellent bumps. avalanche was never good from the start, imo. late afternoon it was torture. the often overlooked banshee lift line was sah-weet! returned to zoomer later in the day when skier's right finally bumped up. not great, not bad either.

from the summit, profile took the cake for MASSIVE GS turns in the fog. vista way on natural snow was okay... would like a bit more snow and pack over there. taft slalom in better condition than PM last sunday, soft snow on the side. upper hard... blah. didn't dare take mid hard with the run out on soft slow snow.

last sunday i had the run of my lifetime... the first time i ever skied mittersill. saturday i returned for three runs. taft is much more packed with harder snow than last week, but excellent bumps. barrons was not quite as fun as last week, but still sweet. the trail under the old double lift had AWESOME snow up top, and a bit of thin cover and challenge down below.

although not open, the tracks under the tramline continue. brave souls indeed. cannon could still use another dump or two as the popular trails are getting skied off quickly. second week in a row avalanche got chewed up and was no fun, and that's usually one of my favorite trails. but there's always great snow if you know where to look.

Thanks for the great update.

How were the crowds and liftlines? I was fearful that snow in everyone's backyards would bring out everyone. As I buzzed along Rte. 93 I saw way more traffic than I did at any point last year. Like to hear about crowds (or lack thereof) at the other Ski 93 areas too.

crowds? at cannon? hahahaha.

i also have noticed the increased traffic, especially on the drive home on I93. but cannon never has crowds. longest i've ever waited for a lift line (tram and zoomer lift on a race day excluded) has been one minute.

as for saturday, all lifts were ski on all day long. amazing how most people make the turn off I93 at waterville or loon... i wave goodbye and head onto uncrowded paradise at either cannon or burke

has anyone on this board poached the tramline yet this year? looking for first hand details. i got a good look on it in december but it needed a ton of snow. im guessing its skiable now.

tracks were made on the tramline these past two weekends. still looks awefully hairly by tower one and the exposed rock.

it's poachable if you've got some guts and don't mind losing your ticket (you will, a liftie said they've already done it). as much as i was pumped when i heard about that trail, i most likely will not be skiing it after seeing it from the front seat of the tram.

good luck if it's on your agenda!

Anyone read this month's backcountry mag? got an article on backcountry Cannon. Now, this may be tabboo because it may further proliferate info on stashes others cherish, but I desperately thirst for knowledge of the unigue, hairy, and gnarly in and around Cannon.

OK - you got bunny direct, tucker brook, a shot of small fields on the right of vista way. Been there - done that. BTW - *love* bunny direct - would like to meet the brush-cutting geniuses who designed that bootleg run.

I read in the article about Mardi Gras. Sounds like it heads south-southeast off the summit and descends around the otherside of cannon cliffs. It sounds *sweet*! Bottom line: I'd like to get some more info on some of the backcountry stashes ... if anyone dares to share.

Cheers

P.S. I have to post as anonymous - haven't gotten an account yet. Will soon though (hopefully). I'm hoping to be 'BN' - email: pkorslund@yahoo.com

P.P.S. Going to Wildcat this weekend. Has anyone ever found BC stashes there? Heard and read of a mystical 'Thompson Brook' starting off the summit ridge to the north. Has anyone been down it? Look at the Wildcat brochure trail map - now why would they have a callout pointing to Thompson Brook that has no trails on or around it if there wasn't something there. It's like they're proverbially winking at you.

a little old, but i finally have pictures up for those interested:
http://www.netway.com/~theway/ski/2003/cannon2003b.htm
