Yet another beautiful day in the North country, highs in the mid-80s. I hadn't planned on it, but there was a pair of skis and boots in the car, so after work I stayed on I-93 and drove right up to the Notch again. Man, what a difference an 85 degree day makes. I take back what I said about top-to-bottom through May 1st. Here's the Front Five (compare that to Saturday's pic 4/12!).

I didn't have the AT gear, so I hiked. Up Gremlin (still pretty solid) under the Peabody Quad, to Middle Cannon (a few new bare spots)

to the top of the quad, then up Tramway (still good cover)

in time to sit on the deck and watch the moon rising over Lafayette.

Walked around the building, and skied under the Cannoball Quad

to top of Taft, where I'd been 24 hours ago. Taft was toast after just one 85 degree day.

Bare spots had appeared everywhere, though it's still possible to ski around them on skiers left.

The ledges, where I'd skied down the middle yesterday, were down to one good line on the left.

The skiing was good on Taft, although a lot softer than yesterday. I took basically the same route from there, cutting over to Upper Ravine above lunch rock, to Middle Ravine. Middle Ravine was a surprise, with major bare spots since yesterday, though you can still squeak by them on skiers right. From Lower Ravine, I cut back onto Gremlin to the bottom. Aside from the heartache over the new bare spots everywhere, it was a great run, well worth the hike.

Boy, when it goes, it goes fast. I read they roped off the Sherburne half way down yesterday; it's probably not going to be open at all by the Inferno on Saturday.
