Well after three straight days at crotched (one with 10 in of fluffy powder & the other two on superb groomed snow) Cannon seemed pretty dismal today.
Lots of bare spots, every trail had bare spots... and lots of them. Things that were ungroomed were mashed potatoesque. Extra raining, it seemed as if gortex was no match for the conditions today, foggy as well, visibility was under 100 feet on most of the mountain, at times you were lucky if you could see 20 feet. All in all a pretty yuck skiing day. Ok, I'm done complaining, on to the good things.
One more things, winds were gusting above 40mph at the base, ripping old snow off the top of buildings. At the top there must have been a gust about 70 or 80 cause it ripped my skis out of my hands and almost blew me over.
There were an abundance leftover snow whales (waiting to be groomed out, I think so they don't melt). They were tons of fun to play on. Must have been 30 or 40 on one trail, made for lots of fun. Also a good day, due to the lack of skiers. The first two rows never even filled up in the parking lot. We skied for about 3 hours and called it a day (we were on vouchers so we didn't feel bad) Went to upper cannon once, looks like they put new signs up for kinsman glade and tramline. The top of the mountain was getting rain to, but it was below freezing and it was coating over the snow. Made for a challenging descent.
Here is a picture of my bro and i goofing around with cannon's advertising dollars.
