a primo day at cannon, let me tell ya. superbowl sunday brought the annual two-fer special which meant i could achieve my goal of getting at least one run for each buck i paid

caught the second chair which stalled out for 5 minutes by the tower with the weathervane thingy. patrol was there all looking at it. we sat there for 5-10 minutes, and then it was game on! middle cannon is AWESOME on first run of the day after it's been freshly groomed! the snow was fast and edgable, i made a b-line for zoomer triple.

zoomer triple: zoomer was groomed and boring, really thin bumps skiers right that i didn't touch. zoomer lift was thin with okay hard packed bumps up top, thin uneven bumps down low. i skied each once, eh. rocket was FAST. gary's was fast too, bumps on skier's right were hard packed and eh. avalanche was groomed out with some flat natural stuff skiers right. banshee slopes were eh. i ducked into banshee gladed and found TONS of junk under the snow and bailed quick. all of this is nothing to write home about, i skied each of these once.

paulie's folly, RUN O' THE DAY! listed as closed on the trail report, they had a rope running across the top with a small entrance skiers left and a thin cover sign. that's an invitation to this skier. all natural snow was soft and edgable all day. the base has solidified, so there wasn't much worry of hitting bottom. small amounts of vegitation were poking through with occasional grass patches, but again i enjoy these. i powered over, through, and around the soft bumps and crud on all parts of the trail, excellent everywhere. purly a dream considering i thought it was gonna be groomers all day. i made at least 6-7 runs down polly's. as i like to say, it's either the best or worst run on the mountain.

peabody quad: short link skiers right held out okay, middle cannon by day's end was an ugly skating rink. middle closed was decent and fun, and amazingly lower closed had untouched fresh! 3 inches or so? how does that happen? the rest of the peabody quad is unimportant.

cannonball quad: vista way was half skiable/half rocks. it was okay, really cold over there. skylight was okay, nothing special. taft slalom started okay early and got scraped up butt good. definitely wasn't feeling the top of cannon.

mittersill: more than a month since the last dump and it was pretty thin on that last one. i figure, this is gonna suck but what the hell? yea, i'll take two please! taft race course rocks my world everytime. delightful edgable snow with no major thin spots. then i took (hhmmmm, don't know the name) which had lots of vegitation but good cover and no rocks (woo!) to tbar line which was ugly but fun. returned for a second time, chomped some rocks under the double line and hit (hmmmm, don't think that has a name!) which was perfect edgable packed powder, YES!

crowds weren't bad for a two-fer sunday (similar to the last time pats were in the bowl) unlike last year which was packed. all lifts were no more than a minute wait. only took the tram once, and there was no car wait.

um, pinch me! wasn't expecting half as many awesome runs as i had today on natural snow no less. one big dump and cannon is gonna be a playground.
