Some folks have been asking about reducing image sizes to post within the 40kb limit here.

You need to use an image utility software -- it doesn't matter whether it's Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, CompuPic, ACDSee, or anything else. The principles are the same.

JPEG format is a compressed image format -- that is, the file size is decreased, and the computer of the person viewing the image decompresses the image when it's displayed. Therefore, file size is reduced.

There are therefore two ways to control image size: dimensions of the image, and the amount of compression. The more compressed the image file is, the smaller the file size, but the lesser the quality.

My recommendation? Use 320x240 or thereabouts for image dimensions, unless the image requires a bigger size to be legible, and compress the file roughly 40%. This should get JPEGs down to the 10-20 Kb size. It matters not what size you scanned the image if you used a scanner, these settings to resize the image should work just fine. Also, the maximum screen resolution is 72 dpi, so if you're scanning the image for viewing on a monitor, it makes no sense to scan at 100 dpi or 300 dpi. The higher the dpi, the bigger the file size.

Hope this helps!
