after living through the second warmest summer in weather keeping history . i didn't think it was ever going to cool down enough for it to snow.

started skinning at the base of the ski area as if it were a normal start to the season , but i really wouldn't say this was day one , still need to lose the leaves on the trees and they are turning .

there aren't many trees that drop there leaves in alta , certainly all are in the base area somewhere .

alot of deer tracks in the snow this wasn't enough of a storm to push them down canyon , besides this fifteen inches of snow will be gone by the end of today except for maybe the shadiest places above ten thousand feet .

there were a few people hiking about the resort but not many

I wondered if there was enough to tempt someone to notch September. Perhaps BobbyD is tempted to chase Patrick?

Skiing looked quite fluid considering the very low tide. Presumably you locals know where it's a grassy and not rocky subsurface there in Collins Gulch.

Like Bobby said, there really aren't any rock-free areas. Maybe they just don't care about the rock skis they're using, or, more dauntingly, not caring about a season-ending injury happening on the first day of pre-season.
