2023: I was invited to a ground breaking ceremony last week for a new 18mo build of a new lodge in the beginner area that has/will replace the junky old trailers that have been down there for decades. It will have some level of food service, a deck facing the slopes, and will be the home of ski school and the non-profit Ignite disabled programs (with 5K sq ft of space just for them). Ground was actually broken first of May-ish and huge work required to move all sorts of base area utilities that run underneath that area. Electric, internet, water, snowmaking pipes, etc...
Took way longer than expected for this project to get started (by years) due to the ever PIA Boulder County that never met a project of any type they they ever wanted to approve without huge delays and dozens of requested amendments, usually that have little to do with anything useful or meaningful of course.
In addition they have a bit of snowmaking pipe in the parking lot (not sure what the actual project is for it), They are finishing off the remaining requirements from Boulder County from last summers 800 spot parking lot enlargement, and will get to replacing the night skiing lights on the lower mtn to new low energy (and better/brighter lights too).
Not entirely huge news in the world of skiing, but since I'm in the loop on this thought I'd share.
Quite a bit of snow on the bottom reaches of the hill for mid-May at Eldora.
This was the GM's turn to talk and you can see a rendering of the building to the right.
One of the many shovel groups after formal speeches and ceremony done.
Not actually sure where this snowmaking pipe is going, but always a key system to be working on.
