Garceau , Quebec

Since our local powder (Alta) ski area was closed, we headed northeast across the Laurentians to search for powder. After driving through a heavy snow squall that dropped a few inches we ended up at Garceau(a ski area in the northeast Laurentians with about 1000’ of vertical). Garceau had not been open all week and officially had most of their trails closed but it was a loosing battle for the ski patrol to keep the powder starved public away. We ended up skiing boot deep, knee deep powder all day on snow that had fallen over the last 5 days.

love it! warms my heart really. great mission, great rewards. reminds me of the st patties day storm last year when most folks were headin north on the friday night taking 6+ hours to get to vermont from mass, i drove south and had an epic afternoon and evening of pure powder turns at mount wachusett. not challenging but, who cares when yur staring down at 1000 vert of every run tracks covered puking like hell snowstorm under the lights with maybe 50 skiers in attendance. it snowed 13 inches by 10 pm. slept in the car that night and hit the road back to vermont for 1st tracks at burke sat am. i guess it doesn't compare to driving to canaan valley wv to hit the valentines day storm before it hit us, then driving right back to burke for the wed, thurs, fri love storm of 07.
it's fun to chase storms and get em. sometimes north and sometimes south.
nice report
