What a relief after a day at Whiteface.
Sunday at Gore Mountain was relatively uncrowded, and snowing on and off after about noon. Monday was completely empty, snowing in the morning, warm and gloriously sunny in the afternoon. The top of the mountain and the Topridge section of the mountain still had powder and groomed near days end!
Most of the mountain was open on Sunday, though some of the glades from what I could see, looked scary. On Monday I saw a group of people skiing down the glades underneath the Topridge lift, basically stuck. They were going to have to hike out. (the slope was closed, which they seemed to have ignored).
Not all the mountain was open on Monday, which was a shame because otherwise, it was the perfect ski day. Hawkeye was extremely fun, we must have skiied/snowboarded it 4 times in a row.
I will warn you though, that about 4:30 as we were leaving, it started to rain, pretty moderately. Its a bummer, so I hope they are getting this same snow I'm seeing outside my window this morning in Manhattan, and that the weather forecasters are correct for the rest of the week. The 7+ inches of snow forecasted for the area last week, probably totaled 2 all-in.
