All I can say is WOW! What a day! 2' of snow. Face shots, poached runs, glades and pow pow pow all day!

For this storm, we got going before the storm and positioned ourselves near Gore mountain with friends and welcomed in the storm.

Sunday morning it started to snow here in Ithaca at 6am. Quickly got dressed and called Mike to get him in gear for an early departure so we won't have to be driving in a snowstorm. We got to Gore and bought half day lift tickets and headed up on the Gondola over to the Straightbrook quad, and lo and behold our posse of local Gore Mtn friends were at the top getting ready to take another run on Hawk Eye. They had blown large whales of snow since the rain on thursday and it was laps of soft bumps the rest
of the afternoon. The other parts of the mountain were pretty bulletproof.

It was pretty quiet on the mountain, and our posse had the trail to ourselves for most of the afternoon.

It started to snow during our first run and continued until the next morning. We woke to 2' out our door!

We got up there for lift opening and got fresh tracks in many places. We had an off-duty ski patroller guiding us to fresh stashes all morning long and a pack of locals who know how to rip. We poached Chatiemac, which they eventually opened in the afternoon. We got the first tracks on it, and it was deep and sweet! The snow was powdery and wonderful all day long even where tracked. Other trails and glades were sampled. Not much base, and some places were a little sketchy with buried obstacles, but it was worth getting through that stuff for thigh deep snow. No skis were damaged too badly.

I got to use my brand new Pocket Rockets and I was in powder pig heaven. Those skis are totally awesome in the powder! What a fantastic day of great powder skiing with good friends in the Adirondacks.
