Well, it was certianly an awesome weekend to be outside, and conditions were like mid-spring with temps in the high 40s and low 50s.
Bump trails were the place to be. Iliad, Eleysian Fields and Zeus sported some nice bumps on saturday, but they mowed Zeus for sunday and it was pretty much smooth on one side, but bumped on the other. Arethusa Way was also bumped up nicely with solely natural snow (with grass in various places). The woods were getting browner by the minute. By sunday we didn't even bother. Saturday we picked our way through the legal and not so legal glades. Unskied snow was like glue and very challnging to turn the skis. Th beaten path was the best bet, and some of those paths were quite beat in the natural snow areas. All man-made snow bases are deep and made for some excellent hero conditions.
Need new snow soon!!!
Sunday there was a Dynastar demo day. The rep was there. I tried the 8000 and the 4800. The 8000 was OK, but a bit damp and not real lively. The 4800 was much more lively and nimble. I don't think either of these skis will replace the X-Scream, but I have not found a ski yet that will. I'd be happy to hear any suggestions from the peanut gallery. I know everyone has an opinion.
Here's my criteria:
1. no integrated bindings (I have good bindings (Sal 912ti)
2. must be all-mtn and do well in bumps/trees
3. no more than $400
4. ~164-174cm
I'd consider used skis, if they were the right ones.
