Greek Peak 3/25/06

2" of wet snow skied like creamed cheese early but later on curdled in the warmer weather into a consistency similar to cottage cheese.

Not too bad considering the weak winter we've had. Greek Peak has yet to stay open until the end of March in a few years, so skiing this late in the season is a treat.

The coverage was adequate though by no means complete, but there were plenty of ways to get down without skiing on brown snow.

I telemarked for 3 solid hours, then took a beer break with the over-40 closer to 50 snowboarder guys. I've never seen so many older dudes shredding it up. The telemark posse was out as well, and we all merged into a large social club. Went back out for another hour and a half. The snow had gotten a bit sticky and my quads were baked. Great day out with lots of friends on the local hill. Tmrw may be the last day.

I'm taking a break from the work I brought home so I could cut out early for a few runs before the GP lift closed. By the time I got out, the sun was nearly behind the hill, but there were enough rays left to make it worthwhile. Plenty of corn, and not yet mushy, on the trails off Chair 1. However, the trail you pick is the trail you stay on because ? no surprise here ? the crossovers are bare. Some protomoguls were beginning to form here and there. We sure could use some real moguls, but, alas, it's too late. I'm impressed by the depth of the base the GP mountain crew has made. (If only they'd let some bumps form on Iliad!) If the showers in the Friday and Saturday forecast hold off, my guess is GP will make it to the weekend, but if the forecast highs in the 60s pan out the thin and bare spots will grow tremendously. I'm seeing pond skimming on Sunday. After that ... the Superstar glacier!
