Greek Peak 3/5/05

My last weekend at Greek Peak before I head to Utah, then Arizona until April. Greek Peak rarely stays open that late in the season, but if things keep up the way they are, it could possibly still be open possibly on weekends when I get back. Fingers crossed.

Spent saturday morning skiing all the glades, in and out of bounds. The snow in the woods is excellent, and there was fresh snow to be had if you knew where to look. The rest of the mountain was packed powder and some bumps. They had a mogul competition on Eleysian Fields. I've talked about entering this, and maybe next year Pam and I will go head to head. Only one woman entered this year, so Pam and I have a shot at winning this, even if we didn't do any crazy airs. (I'm not a big air girl).

We went back to Chair 5 for our picnic lunch. We brought our lawn chairs, so we relaxed with a few beers and sandwiches. Made a mess of the snow with our shelled peanuts.

I swapped out my alpine gear for telemark gear. I hadn't telemarked since January. It was fun to get back out. I did pretty well, though when I went in the woods I did mostly p-turns and a little flailing. Hooked up with some other pinheads which was nice for some freeheelin comraderie. I had to pass when they opted for a side-country route, which was steep, tight and demanded more than may abilities would allow. I enjoyed the free-heelin cruising on the soft smooth trails under the lift to end my day.

Sunday was spent xc touring on our land with good friends and 6 dogs followed by hot cocoa and hot tub.

Great winter weekend in the east.

Thursday I head to sunny, warm and dry Utah, so I will miss all this snow and the upcoming snowstorms. But at least I'll be skiing real mountains.
