I had thought by now I'd be in better spirits after a powder night. Well, it rained all night long. The coverage at Greek Peak is very good, so the skiing that we did was actually quite good. Hero snow all around. Big soft slushy bumps. But it was nikcuf pouring!!!
I had borrowed my friend's Crossmax's to give'm a try. I was actually surprised. I didn't think I'd like them, but as I skied them, I got used to them.
It was Weds night race night, so I started out in a race clinic at 6pm. All we did was carving technique exercises and inspect the course. This was fine for me, as I got a lot out of the exercises and with the super soft snow and a real carving tool I was having a blast riding the edges and leaning way over.
The course was fairly straight, so the times were fast. I skied the course 7 whole seconds faster than I did last week. I think it was not only the way the course was set, but I think the skis made a huge difference, and the exercises really got me 'in the groove' (no pun intended). I beat out some of the third seed skiers and was accused of sandbagging. While no sandbaggin was intended, I think I did a lot of things right today.
I dropped my soaking wet shell at the shack and skied in my sleek softshell with the hood pulled tight over the helmet. I'm sure this was faster than that wet purple goretex kite. My softshell got drenched but never soaked through to the inside. My sleeves were a bit damp by my wrists where there was a point of entry. My gloves soaked through and my fingers are black from the dye. My Helly Hansen pants only leaked a little through the side zipper but that wasn't until the last couple of runs. I skied about 2 1 /2 hrs and it poured nearly the whole time.
This weather bites. What happened to the snow????
