WOW!

Sat-44 opens, great manmade POW all morning. 12:30 or so it starts snowing and quickly it turns to outright dumping. I swear that between 1-4pm it seemed as though about 6" fell. One of those "ski a run and then go back and find your tracks gone again" days.

I was crazy and went home on Sat night, got up 6am Sun and removed snow from my house until 7:30 (thank God for snowblowers!), then back up to Hunter.

Sun-arrived at about 9:30am; I was slightly disappointed that 18" or so was the final total...seemed like we might get alot more. Sure was sweet, dry, fluffy snow! Great day, but awful cold and windy! I did not go into the woods save for a little test on Bailey's...seemed a little thin and with the dry light snow I was afraid of hitting stuff.

Finally got the snow fix I was needing so much...so spent today I almost skipped work to sleep in. Here's a pic...doesn't get much better than this:

WOW IS RIGHT!!!

I hit Hunter on Sunday, too. Left Katonah at 6:20, up 684 to 84 then 87. Saw maybe 15 cars the whole way to the mountain. Slow going, too. Normally takes me 1:50 with dry roads, took almost 2:45, but well worth it for the pow! :D The faithful shall be rewarded!! 8) 8)

The area was pretty empty. There was a State of Emergency in all of NJ and Westchester County, NY, so I think a lot of people stayed home. Better for us!

Wasn't as windy as it looked like it would be, during the drive up, but got really cold as the day wore on.

44 (I hate calling it Westway) was a delight. Even when we did our last run there at 3:15, there was still plenty of pow on the left and right sides to bounce over and through.

I'm still in a state of bliss \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

You know, the wind was not as bad at Hunter as elsewhere. There were a few spots on the east side of the mountain that were brutal, but the reward was that the wind loaded alot of snow into those spots and it was waist deep in places.

The west side was relatively protected and had probably the best snow on the hill. Both 44 and Clair's rocked!

Yup, on the West side lift, the wind was at your back, making a comfy ride up. We also found great snow on the front face on Gun Hill Road, which is passed over by most, in favor of Racers Edge and Eisenhower (which were great in their own regard.)

On Eisenhower, I was floating along towards the bottom left, popped over a little rise and submarined into a waist deep drift, going head over heels and blowing off both skis. I thought I was in Utah!

Lower K27 was pretty sweet too.
