Any one have any Beta on this? The web site was not much help unless I missed something, not for lack of looking. Just wondering what the route is like, experiences from last year, I assume they charge to get a bib number? Get any swag for paying the piper or is hanging behind the pack and taking part for free allowed?

I may take part, not if it is a powder day or there are fresh lines to be had. But if there is no rush to hit the trees, I might bring my skins and have some fun the hard way. Sounds like it would be a fun event but I can't see paying much money for the "privilege" of earning some turns on a mountain I already have a season pass to.

I am going to answer part of my own question as I found a link on the T4T forums for the recently started NE Rando Race web site that I had forgotten about:
http://www.nerandorace.com/jay_course.html

Looks like a long brutal course  I am glad they are sending those light weight F1 wearing racers down Kitzbuehel AND River Quai. The problem I have with Rando Races is they tend to be biased towards guys that are faster on the uphill instead of a more holistic approach (which might involve having the starting line at the top of the mountain and do a top to bottom run first through the woods or the face chutes or something giving the faster downhill skiers an edge).

Any ways, I can not see myself paying to enter that type of sweet fest. I don't think I would even bother tagging along for free regardless. I like the idea though! Doesn't seem worth sacrificing a quality day on the slopes for though as that would likely be a most of the day affair.

the race starts at 7:30am or close to it and it is over for the winners in less than an hour, i think the winning time last year was around thirty minutes, either way, it takes most people over an hour but the lifts don't run until 8:30am. that means you will get some early morning runs on the hill with about thirty to forty people.

I am thinking of dragging my 200 lbs. carcas around the mountain for a little exercise and see how i fair against the speedsters. How much is the entry fee? I will we product testing the New touring Tele bulldogs called the Light Dogs. Louis Dandurands latest binding which allows you to change the binding action from tele to tour. As well it is lighter than the Tele Bulldog. He is still testing the binding with defferent plastic metal combinations for maximum strength and minimul weight. They will be mounted on a pair of K2 Super Stinx. Not the lightest ski, but will be nice on the downhill sections. P.S. Hope to see the Ol' Red Eye possie at the starting line. Pending Conditions of course.

I saw your post about Jay on Feb 10, too bad you didn't join us for the rally. The skinning was great. We only had 9 people at this race, as opposed to 70 at the MRG/Sugarbush rally the weekend before, but everyone had a good time. I did a brief write-up and posted the times at
http://www.nerandorace.com/Jay_07.html

Right now, a lot of the talk about randonnee racing focuses on the best athletes out there, and like any sport, they are far better than the average person. But like any sport, randonnee racing also needs the large masses of average people competing in it. People who are out there just for the fun (and the beer). It is that aspect of the sport that I would like to see grow, which I think is totally possible. One of the guys at the Jay rally finished it on heavy twin tips, in downhill boots, with alpine trekkers, and huge grin on his face.

Hopefully we will see you guys up there next year!

nice work on the site, astrotech. i would love to participate in future races as part of the "average person" crew, but they need to make entry fee rates more reasonable. as it is, paying to skin is a completely foreign concept to me! i don't mind supporting the cause but the price seems really steep for what it is. i gladly held onto my money this past weekend, caught first tram, and went in search of powder. i really like the idea! but i think the reason the average folks are not getting out to these events is that these events are not designed with the average skier in mind. just my two cents without having actually been involved in an event. there were a heck of a lot more than 9 people skiing at jay with AT gear (myself included), so the lack of interest is surely not do to a lack of skiers at jay with the right equipment...

how about one of these rallys after the lift stop turning... say up tucks and down the sherbie? heck, up GoS and include one of the gullies avi conditions permit. hard passing up a powder morning to pay to earn turns...
