kmart claimed that this past sunday marked the end of the ski season for new england.

:bs:

it was a toss up between skinning up kmart or hiking up jay. with kmart twice as far as jay, i figured i'd take a shot at jay during which will likely be the last week of the year that it would be worth it. got a late start leaving work at 4:30 despite planning on leaving early around 3:30 ](*,) but this being my first week and all, i didn't want to get too far behind just to feed the need. besides, it light till 8pm! the setting sun gave me pause, but the thermo pushing upper 50s did not.

i heard canam was decent and linkable turns down to the terrain park the previous weekend. much damp weather washed much of that away, but canam was still doable with a few brakes in the cover. given my late start and desire for continuous vertical, i spied what i estimated was the longest continuous vertical under the jet triple without need of removing skis. it also looked like a fairly elegant patch. what can i say, i ski with an aesteticly oriented mind.

hiked up to just below the long and narrow patch and booted up. there was some snow up above this patch, but this patch looked ideal for yo-yo'ing then i could pick my pack up and ski out. solid plan and it worked well. unfortunately, after only my second hike up, i realized the sun was going down and i had little desire to use my flash light and head lamp. besides, i gotta work tomorrow! so i called it quits after two runs.

the snow was a delightful corn and i hollared and whooped it up the entire legnth of the patch. man, i love my turns. sometimes you think you know just how much you love skiing, until you hike up for a 30 second run and milk every turn for all it's worth. very satisfying feeling proving yet again that it's not quantity, but quality that is truly important. but what i wouldn't have given for quantity to boot!

had to side steep a water bar, jump a water bar, and side steep ~8 feet... but other than that, i skied about half of the veritcal of the jet triple i'd guess. pretty sweet evening and a sweet drive home. home, that's an interesting word... for the first time in my life, i feel i really am home.

more next week from K. i'm only at 34 and ain't stopping yet!

Nice report, thanks !

It's always very kewl to ski after Killington's season end.

It's impressive to see that much snow left, especially as the ski area is closed for more than 1 month now ;)

I didn't do it yet this year, but I'm going to do it for sure in the coming weeks, as I don't care to ski on a 300' snowpatch, to reach june ;);)

The force is strong in you Jedi.
Nice pics! Haynes looked decent too from yer photos. Did you see anyone else? I wouldnt be able to get within 15 miles of Jay without stopping at the Belfry! Yum!

Nice job River0il.

You have moved to St.Johnsbury :?: Definately getting closer to the action.

Frank, I am pretty convinced that there will still be on good patch of snow left on the Lower pitch on Superstar on the first weekend of June.

yea, haynes also had some snow. honestly, it might have been a better line. it was hard to tell where the trail wrapped around the trees. no one else was earning em' when i was there.

Patrick- i moved up to StJ this past weekend. wasted no time in taking advantage of patches only an hour away :) kmart is two hours though, which is a little more of a commitment mid-week - but the sum is almost at it's longest so i should be heading down next week mid-week.

awf170- those are intuitiv bigs by dynastar, same as the legend 8800 of this year. helluva ski off the groomed.
