now i know things can change in a matter of hours... but i was just wondering for perspective sake.
any K local know if K has ever had under 100 trials open at this point in time?
any Jay local or former employee  know if their current trail count is unprecedented?
i am not ripping either of these places at all.. i'm just curious and trying to put things in perspective

According to http://snowcountry.com Jay, Stowe and Sugarbush are all about 3/4 open while Killington is at 48%.

I have progress reports online since 1996-97, and while they are not detailed there are a couple of seasons in there where I refer to major Vermont areas being only half open in mid-January.

I feel your pain this weekend. Mt. Baldy village at 4,000 ft. had 22 inches of rain from Jan. 6-11. Most of the ski area (6,500-8,600 ft.) had rain not snow for at least 3/4 of that storm. Mountain High admits to "frozen granular" on its website, rare in SoCal. The Big Bear areas are probably restoring surfaces with high capacity snowmaking at night, but 2 of the 3 access roads are currently closed by mudslides.

It's a real mess when this happens. I don't see you stand it back there when it happens week after week.

from my experience, i'd say less than 100 trails for mlk at killington is abnormally low. 100 trails is more consistent with the trail count for xmas week. for the most part we're skiing only on the major snowmaking trails with very few nat trails open and there are still a number of snowmaking trails not open. i would say at this point, this is the worst year i've seen.
