Man I can't look at the K trail map without laughing. The number of trails is so BSed and overinflated. There isn't like an inch of that mountain without a "trail" on it. It's just like random lines everywhere and run names change halfway down and such. I've never skiied there but they map is such a joke. I'm sure they have some good terrain but there's just sooo much BS to make them seem bigger and better.

hey i agree there is so much on that map they manage to squeeze every inch out of that mountain and as you said change trail names so often every 1/16 of a mile etc.

When i ski there though i just tend to go anywhere since i know the mountain i could care less. I just go and find a nice run that isn't crowded at the moment and ski it.

Do you mean have, or have open in November?
The answer is Yes to both.
Unfortunately I just looked at their site and noticed that Downdraft which is double black and was open 2 weeks ago is now closed. That sucks as it was a blast then. Anyone have any news on how bad it looks as of today?

That last post was in response to the gues tost asking if they really have double blacks. I missed that I was at the end of the page not the end of the thread... :?

I just got done comparing my 1986-87 Killington map and compared it to the newest I could find which was 99-00. '86 is a postage stamp next to '00!The mountain hasn't gotten bigger but the map has!

Which year was it that K doubled thier trail count without even lifting a shovel by renaming dozens of trails 'Upper" "Middle" and "Lower"?

They must think we're stupid!

Now take a look at the '86 Mad River Glen or Wildcat map and the only changes today will be lifts. I think that's wonderful!Hopefully my son will grow up and be able to experience the SAME trails and mountain that I have.He will never know Killington as I remember it as a youth. That fairy tale is gone.

Sad seeing all those stashes named. Kmart had mentioned "new" tree runs at Bear but it looks like they labelled them all over the damn place. Yeah, there are still some left but I fear it's only a matter of time before some idiot heads into one of those areas just because they see it on the map and gets hurt or worse. Hope not, but some things are just better left unsaid, y'know?
BTW that killingtonzone.com site also has a scan of one of the recently discussed Kmart topographic trail maps. Pretty interesting as it predates lots of stuff such as Canyon lift, Superstar lift (and the espective trail bulldozing that followed), the Northeast Passage Triple (since removed)... and even pre- the entire Bear Mt.!

were those glades actually stashes before? from the lifts, they seemed like rediculously obvious swaths cut around a few trees... which was what i was getting at by saying the forest looked pretty bad. perhaps they "enhanced" the glades before putting them on the map?

Yeah maybe "stash" wasn't quite the right term as it suggests more of a tight hidden line. The map makes some look like specific lines when they're really just large gladed areas, though others were a bit more narrow & obscure and probably did get "enhanced". You're right, the majority have been pretty obvious all along - I know I first skied many by simply looking around from the lift and thinking "hmm, that looks pretty good...". They'll probably get tracked a little quicker now but what the hell, I'm not gonna lose any sleep (*or* freshies) over it!
