Wow March has been fabulous for skiing.
Killington on Friday, 3/11 was pretty busy. The K-1 went down before 8:50 for several hours so I started the day on the Snowdon Quad and North Peak nee Glades triple. For all the snow in their report the base was pretty firm, but lots of snow in the woods. Skied many marked glades. Low Rider stood out. Soft bumps on Old Super Star, Ovation was good, and Highline, Down Draft, Escapade, and North Star were more soft bumps. Started the day in sunshine and ended the day with snow.
Pico on on 3/12 was fabulous. Loaded on the quad at 7:51 AM and made many first tracks. Giant Killer and the Summit Glades were powdery and delightful. I made many laps on these trails with an occaisonal lap on Sunset for variety or another glade.
The crowd factor was minor but my ski buddy was hit by a snow boarder. Every one was OK but it threw a scare into those watching and those involved. I could barely walk by the time I left at 3:00 PM.
Magic on 3/13 had a few more inches of moon dust on top of the base and the sun was out. My picks for the day were Lucifer, Twilight Zone, Heart of the Magician and Talisman. I did have a memorable run down Trip Wire, but the first few turns were rocky.
I met a judge and a few contestants in the Black Magic Challenge on Saturday. This event was held on the upper Black Chair lift line technically not usually open. Apparantly most skiers had double releases at one particlarly challenging spot.
