Let's Buy A Mountain

We know how to run a ski area.I'm personally not educated in the form of making margins and going to board meetings, but I ,like the majority of the people who post here, know what people want.Especially the often neglected expert. There are lots of us out there but we cant always justify the ridiculous prices for early or late or even mid-winter skiing for crying out loud! Most of the costs for the ASC properties comes from paying for the loans for the villages, expansions, condos, confrence centers and restraunts. The expert skiers/riders in the greater Boston metropolitan area will travel 2.5 hours for day trips,IMHO,if a unique product can be offered.
My proposal to you is form our own foundation and try to purchase Cannon or Wildcat.A co-op like MRG.We dont need all that riff-raff that comes with ASC props..We want to ski.But we need to be challenged! The Cat and Cannon have sooooohohoooo much potential for early and late season skiing. Not to mention we dont have to pay for huge expantion loans.I think there's lots of potential for challenging terrain. We want simple things.Reliable lifts, challenge, conveniently located bathrooms,a place to change or eat,and most importantly be a good value.Alta is another example of a ski area renowned for it's expert terrain and it has only a few beds at its base.Yet people will drive all the way up Little Cottonwood Canyon, right by Snowbird to ride it's lifts instead. It has always offered substantially lower lift ticket prices than its neighbor too.

So give me all your money and i'll take care of everything.
((*
*))NHPH

NHPH... you can forget my money, but about to build a ski area, this is seriously in my thoughts in the future. The poor thing is that it's right now that I would like to buy one !

The main problem would be to find the money to buy a ski area like Cannon or Wildcat. Only the installations worth a lot of millions. The best thing would be to create a brand new ski area. The 2nd problem would be to find a ski area close of every "shareholders" (or we should move to beside the area ;))

Considering that it would become a kind of ski area like Silverton in Colorado, we should have a lot of money, cause it would be very expensive to open early and close late. I don't know about the electricity fares in USA, but it should cost well over 100 000$ by year to cover a slope like the Superstar. (it's not with 40 or 100 guests by days that we could reach 100K$ in a season ! lol... and this is not counting all the other expenses !!

So as you can see, unless someone is very rich on the board or one of us win to lotto soon, it would be tough to build that dream. (30 000 000$ next week at the Super 7 here ! yeah)

On my side, my dream could also be to operate a ski area like Alta (in QC). I mean, a little place with good snowfalls average and with really excellent terrain. It wouldn't cost a lot to buy this gem and the "Principale" could certainly play the role of a "Rime" or a "Superstar".
