I would like to jump in my car after work on Friday on head to Stowe. According to mapquest it looks like an 8 hour drive so I'm thinking it would be best to have a hotel room booked before I get there. I have never to this area of Vermont so I don't know about local lodging. The closest rooms I could find through the major hotel chains are either in Burlington or Montpelier (30/40 miles from Stowe ?). Am I stuck with these places or does anybody know of any smaller places that might still have vacancies. I was hoping to spend less than $100/night. I am also open to going to Jay or Smugglers Notch if lodging near these places is going to be easier to find.

They are about 25-30 minutes to Stowe and Smuggs. Jay would be about 45-50. There is also the plaza hotel in Morrisville, it is the second floor of a strip mall. May also be cheap. If not you will be minimum of $200/night around the mts. This is one of their big $$$ weekends. Good luck.
