Anyone hear any details of the snowboarder death resulting from an accident at Loon 1/3? Local radio said his parents took him off life support, and he died at DartmouthHitchcock hospital. "went off a jump and landed on his head", was all they said on the radio.

Sounds like JoeGM's no-bull report of deadly conditions was right on, though the accident may not be related to the icy conditions.

I GOT MY 3DAYER UP TO K CUT DOWN TO 2 DAYS.. I'M HEADING UP TONIGHT, BUT I CHECKED HERE REAL QUICK TO SEE IF ANYONE THREW ANYTHING UP ... I DID NOT HEAR ABOUT THE LOON ACCIDENT, BUT I'M TELLIN YOU GUYS, I WAS NOT HYPING IT WHEN I SAID IT WAS THE WORST I HAD EVER SEEN...I WAS THERE THE ON FRIDAY THE 2ND, THEY WERE BLOWING AT THAT POINT BUT IT HAD JUST STARTED UP, SO AT MOST THEY HAD 24 HRS PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT, IF IT HAPPEND ON SAT THE 3RD....IT WAS SO CROWDED ON FRIDAY THAT THEY HAD CLOSED OFF THE PARKING LOTS AND WERE BUSING FROM IN TOWN... THAT AMOUNT OF SKIERS, COMBINED WITH THE PLACE LITERALLY BEING LESS THAN HALF OPEN, AND THE SHEER ICE , WAS ABSOULTE INSANITY... IF I HAD SMALL CHILDREN, THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY I WOULD HAVE LET THEM SKI. 95 % OF THE SKIERS THAT DAY ON FRIDAY, HAD NO IDEA WHAT THEY WERE DOING IN TERMS OF SPEED CONTROL AND TURNS. HEARING OF A FATALITY DOES NOT SURPRISE ME ONE BIT, AS SAD AS THAT IS. IT'S PART OF THE SPORT I GUESS, TO SOME DEGREE, BUT I'LL TELL YA, IT WAS REALLY THE ONLY DAY I HAVE EVER BEEN SKIING WHERE I GOT NOTHING AT ALL OUT OF IT AND ACTUALLY WAS AFRAID OF THE ENVIRONMENT. A TRAGEDY FOR SURE, THAT SHORT OF CLOSING OUTRIGHT, PROBABLY HAD NO WAY OF BEING PREVENTED. ANYONE AT K TOMM OR FRI, STOP AND SAY "WHAT" UP TO THE 2 GUYS IN BLACK AND WHITE PREDATOR BUMP PANTS...IF WE CAN KEEP UP, WE WILL PROBABLY BE CHASING AROUND THAT CRAZY DUDE WITH THE BIG MOHAWK NAMED PLAKE!!!!!!

There's a story in today's Ski News section from WNNE-TV in Lebanon (NH).

just read that article. sounds like it might get a little nasty. the family(god bless them) doesn't seem to have been aware of the conditions and consequences of snowboarding on the ICE coast. it sounds like he hit the landing and immediately caught an edge and slammed down hard.....and just landed the wrong way. i've come up short on spins many of times when i rode that park and broke goggles, gotten black eyes, bloody noses, and gotten the wind knocked out of me plent of times....just because of taking off the jump wrong or landing wrong. same thing here.....he just landed wrong, but it took his life. s h i t happens i guess. it's a bummer, but that's the risk you take......especially if you're hitting jumps like that on an icey day. dam, was it one of the big ones like 50' that he ate on? patrol should've gated that off if the landing was that icey and hard. those are big jumps/landings and should be steep and fresh everyday....if not, then gate it off. some days are meant to hit those big jumps and some are not. some people don't know that, and need to be given the strong hint not to hit it on days like that.

sure, could have been prevented if he didn't ride that day and sat on the couch, but not because of the wrong design of the jump. come on people. freak accident. it's just ashame that it took the kids life. win some, you lose some i guess.
