Loon on wed... it rained.. it rained a lot and it damn near killed em...coverage was pretty good to start the day in terms of perception and illusion with really no brown spots around anywhere except in the woods and anywhere where there was no fake...as those who are in the know, know, some of the best skiing can be had in the rain, when one is equiped... and it was good... there were about 20 cars in the lot and no more than 100 people on the hill .... heavy thick waterlogged corn stew was on the menu... it was a challenge , but if you are on your skis it was a lot of fun... bumps on lower rummrunner were great.. the tightness of the lines has held up well and it is reaping the benefits during the home stretch... flume was almost as good but the middle section is more spaced out and rutted .. it was a cold rain , no doubt and by 3 pm most had thrown it in. <BR> thurs: woke up to lots of carnage... major spots opened up overnight during a heavy rain and it looked like a different place for sure...lines on lower rummrunner had bomb holes glore... super cool lifties gave gil and i 2 shovels and we went to work for about 60 minutes digging and trying to fill em in.. we came up with 2 lines that were grass free t to b...snow was much better as it dried out a little and became more regular corn than creamed corn.. overcast all day but the rain held off till about 5 pm on thurs...again, absolutely no one there.. they had wind trouble with the gondy all day as it was quite windy for sure.. didn't affect us really though as we were , as usual, banging of the quad... we counted 37 laps for thursday and got in some good work in the bumps... they are getting quite zippered and really require a direct line for sure after the top headwall of 10 to 12 bumps.... groomers were all thick corn mush...they are starting to see major problems in the intersections and as of frid, it didn't look good past next week, but the temps looks to be favorable coming up this week so they might pull it off past easter, but it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't and shut it down on easter...i still think they could ski on at least 50% of their trails but the total lack of interest will probably get em to shut it down...what a shame... the best time to ski and people are throwing it in...i won't use the term " epic " for thursday, but when you pretty much have your own private hsq lift, cool temps in the 40's, soft corn snow ( some would call it crap snow... whatever... i'd call the sheer boilerplate that we all had this year for 95% of the season the real crap !!!! it's unbelievable that people would rather ski in minus 20 in jan than 40 + in april ) , and a whole bump line with tight man made bumps, it's pretty close to epic....back on tues and wed if they are open and spinning the hsq ( 50/50 i'd say )... if not looks like K and the mighty supastar are gonna get an early start this year. ( at north of 2 bucks a gallon, this could get expensive!!!! )
